Previous issue date: 2018-08-09 / Neurotheology is an emerging field of research that seeks to understand the relationship between the brain and the mind, as well as assess what happens to the brain of a person involved in spiritual and religious activities and experiences. The present work aims at pointing out historical aspects of neurotheology and also some of the foundations proposed by Andrew Newberg for the systematization of neurotheology as a scientific field of research. From such considerations, the future perspectives of the religion point to the construction of a spirituality focused on health, being developed in a space of tolerance and plurality. / A neuroteologia é um campo emergente de pesquisa que busca compreender a relação entre o cérebro e a mente, bem como avaliar o que acontece com o cérebro de uma pessoa envolvida com atividades e experiências espirituais e religiosas. O presente trabalho visa apontar aspectos históricos da neuroteologia e, também, quais alguns dos fundamentos propostos por Andrew Newberg para sistematização da neuroteologia como campo científico de pesquisa. A partir de tais considerações, as perspectivas futuras da religião apontam para a construção de uma espiritualidade voltada para a saúde, sendo desenvolvida em um espaço de tolerância e pluralidade.
