Previous issue date: 1979 / Resumo: Empregando radiografias seriadas, foi estudada uma amostra de quarenta indivíduos caucasóides, com faixa etária correspondida entre onze e quinze anos, divididos em dois grupos, vinte do sexo masculino e vinte do feminino, todos com oclusão considerada, clinicamente excelente, sem nenhuma história de tratamento ortodôntico. Através da técnica de BROADBENT (8), 1932,foram obtidas três telerradiografias de cada individuo,com intervalo de doze meses entre cada uma delas. Elaborou-se traçados com ângulo do falométricos e analisou-se as seguintes variáveis: Plano palatino com SN (SN-Pl.Pal.), ângulo do Plano Mandibular com SN (SN-Go.Gn.), ângulo do Plano Oclusal com Plano Palatino (Pl.Ocl.-Pl.Pal.), ângulo do Plano Oclusal com Plano Mandibular (Pl.Ocl.-Go.Gn.), as distâncias Go-Cd (referente a altura do - ramo), I e 11 (que representam a área alveolar da região dos molares) e N-Me (altura total da face) Pretendeu-se determinar as modificações cefalométricas Que ocorreram no tempo,procurando-se identificar a região Óssea que mais contribuiu para estas modificações e qual o sentido das rotações da mandíbula que foram observadas. Eventualmente de acordo com os resultados encontrados, e através da análise estatística, foi possível evidenciar na amostra estudada, a ocorrência de uma rotação mandibular no sentido anti-horário, devido ao crescimento do ramo ascendente, concomitantemente com crescimento na área alveolar dos molares e um crescimento compensatório na altura total da face, o que demonstrou um crescimento harmônico da face nesta amostra. Os resultados obtidos na presente pesquisa estão de acordo com alguns autores citados, entre eles BJORK (5), 1963, 'CHUDY (48), 1965, LAVERGNE & GASSON (39), 1978, ISAACSON e colaboradores (29), 1971, KNOTT (32), 1973 / Abstract: A sample of forty caucasian subjects aging between eleven and fifteen years old, was analysed through longitudinal radiographic study. The sample was divided in two groups, one having twenty males and the other twenty females. All the subjects had presented a clinically excellent oclusionandnone of them had received orthodontic treatment. Three lateral head plate were obtained for each, subject, with a twelve months period interval between each one of them. Cephalometric tracings were processed andthe following variables were analysed: the angle composed by SN line and Palatal Plane (Pal.Pl.-SN) I the angle composed by SN line and the Mandibular Plane (Go.Gn.-SN) i the angle composed by the Oclusal Plane and the Palatal Plane; the angle composed by the Oclusal Plane and the Mandibular Plane, and also the distances Go-Cd (concerning the ramus height), I and 11 (that represent the Molars alveolar area) and N-Me (total facial heigh) . The present study was designed to determinate The cephalometric changes which have occurred during theexperimental period. An attempt was made to identify the bone area which has mostly contributed to those modifications and also the direction of the mandibular rotations that were eventually observed. From the results obtained and through statistical analyses it was possible to detect within this sample the occurence of mandibular rotation in a clock-wise direction due to the mandibular ramus growht. At the same time itwas cbserved an alveolar growth in the molar area and a compensatory growth in the studied sample. The results obtained in the present study are in concordance with some of the authors mentioned before, as BJORK, 1963, SCHUDY, 1965, LAVERGNE & GASS.ON, 1978, ISAACSON et alii, 1971, and KNOTT, 1973 / Mestrado / Ortodontia / Mestre em Ciências
