Prefabricerad eller platsbyggda badrum vid stamrenovering : En jämförelse mellan platsbyggda och prefabricerade badrum vid stamrenovering / Prefabricated or site-built bathrooms during pipe replacement

Climate change is an escalating issue today, and the construction industry faces growing challenges. The construction sector accounts for a significant portion of societal emissions, and balancing environmental impact with economics is becoming an increasingly pressing concern. This thesis aims to explore how the choice of construction method affects carbon impact and profitability. This is done through a comparison of a real project at Karlshem in Örnsköldsvik, where pipe renovation is largely carried out using prefabricated building components. This comparison is performed through a life cycle analysis for climate impact calculations and a life cycle cost analysis where materials, labor, and overhead costs related to the pipe renovation are considered. The work environment and quality are then examined through site visits and conversations with tradespeople. The results of this study show that the economic aspect is largely the same, with only a few percentage points difference, while the environmental aspect is significantly affected by choosing the prefabricated method, which has approximately 47% higher emissions compared to the next best option. The work environment and quality are largely unaffected by the choices made in the renovation method, as there are only minor differences in appearance and work environment. The conclusion  of this study is that the environmentally conscious builder should choose an alternative other than a prefabricated solution for bathroom renovations. The prefabricated solution should be chosen for renovations where there are moisture damages and/or asbestos.
