The purpose of this thesis is to find out if people have changed the way in which they write since the introduction of the internet. Men and women have been writing books, articles, letters, diaries and different types of literature for centuries. To give the reader some background about the weblog as a literary media, this thesis has a whole chapter on half-public literature that includes the history of letters and diaries. The weblog is a unique way for anyone to be whoever they want, whether it be a man or woman, old or young. The reader has no possible way of knowing if the script is true or not. The reader also may not conclude anything personal about the writer at all. The writer essentially remains anonymous. We have followed eight weblogs; four male and four female. To gain a close relationship with our writers we followed them for two years from 2005 to 2006. We decided to analyze them with quantative as well as qualitative methods as well as using text analysis. The methods used are derived from the theories of Jurgen Habermas and Anthony Giddens. We have also used some genus theory for the purpose of showing the differences between the way men and women write and communice on the internet. What we are trying to show with this thesis is that with the new techniques women and men have at their disposal to publish themselves and reach out into cyberspace, have people change the way in which they write at all? / Uppsatsnivå: D
