<p>Syftet med studien var att beskriva de faktorer som motiverar skolelever till fysisk aktivitet, samt motiverar dem att välja fysisk aktivitet alternativt ett teoretiskt skolämne, under elevens fria val i skolan. Studien var kvalitativ och data samlades in genom 11 semistrukturerade intervjuer på den utvalda skolan, för att få en djupare förståelse för informanternas tankar, värderingar och vad som verkligen motiverade dem till deras val av ämne/aktivitet. Vid analysen framkom olika faktorer som motiverade ungdomar till fysisk aktivitet och valet till elevens val. Utifrån det bearbetade datamaterialet skapades tre kategorier som svarade på studiens syfte. Studien visade att de flesta elever blev påverkade av sina föräldrar redan i tidig ålder till att bli fysisk aktiva, men också kompisar och upplevelse av glädje i samband med utövandet av fysisk aktivitet spelade stor roll. En del av de elever som valde teoretiskt ämne på elevens val, gjorde detta för att de ville satsa på skolarbetet och betygen i årskurs 9, betygen ansågs ha en stor betydelse för gymnasievalet. Dessa elever var också mycket fysisk aktiva på fritiden och hade därför inte mycket tid för studierna efter skolan. Enligt de elever som valde fysisk aktivitet på elevens val, var den viktigaste motivationsfaktorn att komma ifrån skolarbetet eller för att det var roligt att vara fysisk aktiv. De resultat som framkom i studien stöds av tidigare forskning inom området. Eftersom det bara var 11 informanter, utvalda från endast en skola, så kan inga generella slutsatser om ungdomars motivation till fysiskt aktivitet och motivation till elevens val dras. Fortsatt forskning bör därför bedrivas på området och då bland elever med annan socio- ekonomisk bakgrund för att se om någon skillnad i resultat framträder.</p> / <p>The aim of this study was to describe the factors that motivate students to be physically active and also describe what motivates students to choose physical activity or a theoretical subject, on the student’s free time in school. The method was qualitative and data was gathered through 11 semi structured interviews with students from the chosen school. The method was chosen because the authors wanted a deeper understanding of the students feelings and thoughts.<em> </em>Through the 11 interviews that were conducted a lot of different factors emerged that motivated students to be physical active and also factors that motivated them to the possibility to choose either physical activity or theoretical subject in school. When the information from the interviews was analyzed, the authors took the information and created three categories that answered the aim of the study. The results showed that most of the students were influenced by their parents in the early ages to be physical active, but also that friends and the enjoyment connected with physical activity was important. The students hade the possibility to chose physical activity or a theoretical subject on their free hour in school. Most of the student’s that chose a theoretical subject, did that because they wanted to work hard and get high grades. Some of the student’s that chose physical activity, did that because they wanted to get away from school work and have fun. The results in this study can be supported by previous research on the subject. Because the number of informants was limited to 11 students, chosen from one school, no general conclusions can be drawn. More research should therefore be conducted on the subject and students from different socio- economic backgrounds should be selected, to see if a different result would appear.</p>
