Hearing impairment limits the possibilities with regard to human communication, such as the cognitive, social and sensory development. With technological advances, cochlear implant has emerged as an alternative for patients with hearing loss severe or profound bilateral sensorineural, which enables you to restore auditory function, promoting the development of oral language. The objective of this study was to describe the influence of cochlear implants in sensory processing in children with hearing impairment. This was a descriptive quantitative study, observational, longitudinal, case series, held in a referral hospital. The study population consisted of 6 children, 4 (66.7%) females and 2 patients (33.3%) were male, aged between 3 and 12 years with severe sensorineural hearing loss or profound bilateral, which were evaluated by the Sensory Profile test, pre-implant, after 1 month and 3 months of activation of the cochlear implant. With respect to sensory processing, before the cochlear implant, buccal processing was likely and/or clear difference in 100% of cases and oral processing 66.67%. After 1 month, the vestibular sensory processing presented probable difference of 66.67%, and oral processing was likely difference and/or clear of 83.33%. After 3 months, the vestibular sensory modalities (66.67%, n = 4), tactile (66.67%, n = 4) and oral (66.67%, n = 4) were likely and / or clear differences. In our patient population, we can show an improvement in the vestibular and oral sensory processing with the cochlear implant.
