Effektivisering av automatlager och formatsåg : En fallstudie vid AB Edsbyverken

In today’s industry, efficient production is important for manufacturing companies to pursue. By improving efficiency, the companies can use less time and fewer resources to achieve the same performance, or even surpass the previous one. According to the concept of lean production, the performance efficiency can be increased by identifying waste within the business and counteract them.  The purpose of this thesis was to study the flow of material between an automation storage system and an angular saw unit. In addition, suggestions for efficiency improvements were made on the interaction between the storage system and the angular saw unit. The focus was on waste, tied up capital, inventory, time reduction and production planning. The methods used were observations and interviews. The suggestions presented were: invest in an IT-system to gather data and allow inter-machine communication, define needed levels of material to storage to reduce capital tied up, standardize the concept of pre-stacking, use production planning, use a manual standard procedure when deviations occur, balance the flow between the storage system and the saw in pull fashion. The conclusion shows that the material flow between the storage system and the angular saw unit can be improved and become more efficient if the company implement our suggestions.
