There are several ways inwhich a subject can be discussed and every way of discussing a subject is counted as adiscourse. The aim of this study is to see what kind of discourses are available withinthe field of Library and Information Science concerning the concepts of credibility andsocial media. The study’s aim is to answer the questions about what discourses arepresent within the material, if there are any differences in how credibility and socialmedia is spoken about between these discourses and whether the social praxis has anyeffect on the research results. In conclusion of the study five major discourses areidentified: social media, credibility, communication, information and users. Dependingupon the context in which the subject is discussed, there are and will be differences ofhow the subject is discussed. And lastly the social and cultural factors do affect how theresult of a study will turn out, how and to which degree depends on the context of thestudy.
