Esta dissertação estuda uma importante mobilização coletiva atual surgida em torno do fenômeno do Software Livre. Amplo projeto que reúne vários usuários de tecnologias informacionais que buscam implementar uma forma de desenvolver programas de computador se opondo à lógica das grandes empresas que controlam esta área. A proposta envolvida na idéia de Software Livre é a de construir o conhecimento de forma coletiva, a partir do compartilhamento e difusão do saber em toda a comunidade que conforma a mobilização. Este estudo tem por objetivo analisar o objeto considerando-o como um movimento social, adotando assim um enfoque teórico relacionado com esse tema e contextualizando a pesquisa no âmbito da sociedade em rede. Isto é, uma configuração social na qual a informação e o conhecimento são fatores que ocupam um lugar central e determinante e estão na mira dos questionamentos que a comunidade do Software Livre traz. A identidade é, para essa mobilização, um eixo fundamental a partir do qual se geram estratégias e se negocia com outros atores, na sua procura de resignificar a tecnologia, os seus usos e a forma de geração do saber dela derivada através da sua própria prática, que se distingue por ter uma lógica de rede e se apoiar fortemente na virtualidade possibilitada pelas tecnologias informacionais, que são o seu meio de ação e, ao mesmo tempo, a parcela do real que pretende mudar. / This dissertation studies an important current collective mobilization that came to surface due to the phenomenon of Free Software. It is an extensive project that congregates several informational technology users, who seek to implement a method to develop software in opposition to the policy of large enterprises that control this area. It proposes to build knowledge in a collective way, sharing and diffusing the information among the community that forms the mobilization. This study aims to analyze the object considering it as a social movement, adopting a theoretical approach related to this subject and applying the research in the scope of network society. Therefore, it is a social configuration where information and knowledge are factors that have a central and decisive role and these factors have been under questioning by the community of Free Software. The identity of this movement is a fundamental axis, that is the support to create strategies and negotiate with other actors, seeking to find other meanings for technology, the uses and the forms it produces knowledge through its own practice. This technology is distinguished for being logic in its network and also for being supported by the virtuality achieved through the informational technologies, which are the main tools as well as an important part of the reality it intends to change.
