The aim of this study is to analyse the presentation of different kinds of language varieties in four different workbooks used in the course Svenska 1 in upper secondary schools in Sweden. The different language variations and their connections to prestige and power regarding language use were also analysed through a thematic content analysis. The research is based on qualitative and quantitative analyses of the workbooks, where words and factual text are examined. The results show that language varieties have been separated more from the subject of correctness in language and therefore show an accepting discourse towards different language varieties. Language varieties still have only a small part in the overall education of the course Svenska 1.
