Previous issue date: 2002-12-10 / The present work presents an algorithm proposal, which aims for controlling and improving idle time to be applied in oil production wells equipped with beam pump. The algorithm was totally designed based on existing papers and data acquired from two Potiguar Basin pilot wells. Oil engineering concepts such as submergence, pump off, Basic Sediments and Water (BSW), Inflow Performance Relationship (IPR), reservo ir pressure, inflow pressure, among others, were included into the algorithm through a mathematical treatment developed from a typical well and then extended to the general cases. The optimization will increase the well production potential maximum utilization having the smallest number of pumping unit cycles directly reflecting on operational cost and electricity consumption reduction / O presente trabalho apresenta proposta de um algoritmo que objetiva o controle e a otimiza??o do tempo de espera a ser aplicado em po?os de produ??o de petr?leo equipados com bombeio mec?nico. O algoritmo foi totalmente elaborado atrav?s de subs?dios da literatura existente e de dados coletados de dois po?os pilotos de campos de petr?leo da ?rea terrestre da Bacia Potiguar. Conceitos de engenharia de petr?leo tais como submerg?ncia, pancada de fluido, Basic Sediments and Water (BSW), lnflow Performance Relationship (IPR), press?o do reservat?rio, press?o em fluxo, entre outros, foram incorporados ao algoritmo por um tratamento matem?tico desenvolvido a partir de um po?o t?pico, para da? ser estendido aos casos gerais. A otimiza??o favorecer? o aproveitamento m?ximo do potencial de produ??o do po?o com o menor n?mero de ciclos da unidade de bombeio, refletindo diretamente na redu??o de custos operacionais e do consumo de energia el?trica
