Abstract The authentic leadership is a leadership that is based upon honesty and genuineness. The leadership consists of four dimensions; relational transparency, internalized moral perspective, balanced processing, self-awareness. Work engagement is described as a positive work-related state of mind consisting of the psychological mindsets, vigour, dedication, and absorption. The purpose of this study was to examine the relation between the authentic leadership and work engagement and how the dimensions within the authentic leadership predicted each psychological mindset within work engagement. A digital questionnaire was designed and based upon The Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) and The Utrecht Work Engagement scale (UWES-9). The questionnaire was published on LinkedIn and answered by 211 respondents within the Swedish labour market. The results showed that the authentic leadership significantly predicted work engagement with relational transparency and self- awareness as the significant predictors. The authentic leadership predicted each psychological mindset after similar patterns, with relational transparency and self- awareness as the most prominent predictors.
