recente e tem se apresentado como contraponto ? historiografia oficial que nega a presen?a
desses atores sociais no Estado. O objetivo dessa pesquisa ? investigar um grupo que se
autoafirma como Potiguara, na praia de Sagi (RN), valorizando aspectos relacionados ? sua
identidade, organiza??o social e processo de territorializa??o. Al?m de seus objetivos
etnogr?ficos, fazendo uso da observa??o participante e da produ??o de um conjunto de
entrevistas, o trabalho analisa, em especial, a gera??o de uma hist?ria de origem, baseada no
parentesco e na territorializa??o, da invisibilidade ? reorganiza??o identit?ria em meio de
conflitos e demandas por reconhecimento ?tnico. / The process of indigenous ethnic self-assertion in the State of Rio Grande do Norte is very
recent and have been represented as a counterpoint to the official historiography denying the
presence of these social actors in the state. The purpose of this research is to investigate a
group that identify themselves as Potiguara on the beach of Sagi (RN), valuing aspects
related to their identity, social organization and territorial process. In addition to its
ethnographic purposes, using the participant observation and the production of a set of
interviews, the work analyzes, in particular, the generation of a history of origin, based on
kinship and territorialization, from invisibility to identity reorganization amid conflicts and
demands for ethnic recognition.
