Arkipelagens Arkitektur utforskar hur ny arkitektur kan relatera och knyta an till en traditionell och stadsspecifik kontext. Examensarbetet utgår från den pittoreska skärgårdsstaden Trosa. Staden blev en badort i början av 1800-talet och formades efter badgästernas behov och intressen. En studie av historiska fotografier visar hur dessa levt vidare till traditioner och präglar Trosa än idag. Studien visar samtidigt hur en väsentlig tradition gått förlorad; möjligheten till bad i stadens centrala delar. Arkipelagens Arkitektur ger tillbaka den förlorade traditionen till staden, genom att återinföra ett kallbadhus som tillgängliggör vattnet i stadskärnan. Vid kallbadhusets gestaltning har Trosas idylliska arkitektur tagits i beaktning. Genom att studera essensen av stadens identitet och bebyggelsens karaktär har det nya kallbadhuset, Näktergalens kallbadhus, tagit form i samtida men också Trosa-typisk arkitektur. / Architecture of the archipelago examines how contemporary architecture correlates to a city’s traditional and specific context. The thesis originates in Trosa, a pictureresque city located by the Baltic Sea. The city became a seaside resort at the beginning of the 19th century and was adapted to the needs and interests of the tourists. A study of historical photographies shows how these have evolved into traditions and still characterizes Trosa. Yet, the study shows how a fundamental tradition has been lost; the possibility of bathing in the center of the city. Architecture of the archipelago gives the lost tradition back to the town by reintroducing a cold bath house, making the water available in the center of Trosa. When designing the cold bath house, the idyllic architecture of Trosa has been taken into consideration. By studying the essence of the city’s identity and the characteristics of the buildings, the new cold bath house, Näktergalens kallbadhus, has been designed in contemporary architecture that is yet typical for the traditional city of Trosa.
