Men's violence against women is a constant problem in today’s society but is mainly looked upon from the perspective of victims of the violence. This essay aims to widen the perspective and look at the perpetrators as the cause of the problem. From a comparative perspective this essay aims to analyze the social service’s municipal guidelines for the work with perpetrators of intimate partner violence. This will be done through a thematic document analysis. The essay uses Carol Bacchi's theory “What’s the problem represented to be?” alongside prior research to analyze social service’s written documents on how to work with perpetrators of intimate partner violence and its representation. The lack of existing research on successful work methods makes it hard to get a complex idea of the problem and its significance, which this study hopes to expand. The work with perpetrators is vital in the fight against men's violence against women. Overall, our conclusion is that solutions to the problem are determined by how the problem is represented. Meaning, men’s violence against women needs more attention in the guidelines for it to ever see an end.
