Se realizó el estudio hematológico de una población de 400 adultos mayores, de ambos sexos, que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión y que acudieron ambulatoriamente al Servicio Académico Asistencial de Análisis Clínicos (S.A.A.A.C) de la Facultad de Farmacia y Bioquímica de la U.N.M.S.M.
Se determinaron los valores hematológicos: Número de hematíes, hemoglobina y hematocrito; a partir de los cuales se calcularon los Indices Eritrocitarios: Volumen corpuscular medio, Hemoglobina corpuscular media y Concentración de hemoglobina corpuscular media; para determinar si existe relación de estos parámetros con la edad y el sexo, y comparar los resultados obtenidos con los valores de referencia (2), y los reportados por otros autores.
Los valores medios hallados fueron: Número de hematíes 4.23 mills/mm3, hematocrito 38.2 %, hemoglobina 13 g/dL, los que se encuentran dentro de los rangos normales, y muestran diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p<0.000) atribuibles al sexo y grupos etáreos. Los Indices eritrocitarios: V.C.M 90.31 μ3, H.C.M 30.7 pg. y C.H.C.M 34% están dentro de los rangos normales; no encontrándose diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p > 0.05) debidos a la edad y el sexo.
Se encontró valores disminuidos de hemoglobina en el 28.5% y de hematocrito en el 19% de la población muestreada, siendo el grupo etáreo “mayor de 90 años” el que registra estos valores mas bajos (11.7 g/dL y 34.4% respectivamente). Los Indices eritrocitarios: VCM, HCM y CHCM son normales en el 99, 99.5 y 100 % respectivamente.

The hematologic values were determined: Number of erythrocyte, hemoglobin and hematocrite; and from which they calculated the Erythrocyte Indices: Average corpuscular volume, corpuscular Hemoglobin average and Concentration of corpuscular hemoglobin average; in order to determine if it exists relation of these parameters with respect to sex and the age, and to compare the results obtained with the values of reference of the Manual Merck (2), and the reported ones by other investigators of different countries.
The found average values were: Number of erythrocyte 4,23 mills/mm3, hematocrite 38,2%, hemoglobin 13 g/dL being within the normal ranks, obtaining statistically significant differences (p<0.000) between the values of erythrocyte, hematocrite and hemoglobin attributable to sex and etáreos groups. The Erythrocyte Indices: VCM 90,3 µ3, HCM 30,7 pg. and CHCM 34% were within the normal ranks; not being statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) with respect to the age and sex.
One was diminished values of hemoglobin in the 28,5% and the hematocrite in 19% of the study population, being “the greater group of 90 years” the one that registers low values (11.7gr/dL y 34.4% respectively). The erythrocyte indices: VCM, HCM and CHCM are normal in the 99, 99.5 and 100% respectively.
