Muitos estudos foram feitos, buscando verificar possíveis consequências da presença/ausência do pai no desenvolvimento infantil; outros, investigaram o fenômeno do envolvimento paterno; pesquisas também foram feitas, descrevendo que com o passar do tempo, a forma de se exercer a paternidade teve significativas alterações. Diversas leis foram editadas sobre o tema (como a mais recente Lei 13.058/14, que dispõe sobre a aplicação da guarda compartilhada), concorrendo para a legitimação do pai enquanto um personagem com papel singular, portador de direitos e deveres. Outras investigações voltaram-se também para o comportamento paterno – tendo como fonte de dados as percepções de filhos e cônjuges a respeito desses pais. Nota-se entretanto que, no atual estado da arte, pouca atenção foi dedicada à subjetividade dos pais – buscando compreender como estes personagens, na atualidade, pensam, sentem e agem, enquanto pais. A presente investigação foi teoricamente referenciada na Psicologia Cultural de Orientação Semiótica e teve como objetivo explorar as possíveis formas de se construir significados sobre paternidade por pais que passaram pela transição pessoal da separação conjugal, em um momento histórico marcado por transições na forma de atribuir significados à experiência de ser homem e ser pai. Para isto, quatro pais, representantes de paternidades construídas em condições diversas – idade; tempo de separação; modalidade da guarda; coabitação com filhos; estado civil; classe social -, foram entrevistados, proporcionando a exploração qualitativa sobre o tema. A investigação obteve como resultados indicativos sobre quais roteiros sociais a coletividade tem disponibilizado para balizar a experiência afetiva de paternidade no contexto de separação conjugal, além de indicativos a respeito de quais recursos semióticos estão sendo utilizados pelos pais contemporâneos para significar as suas experiências enquanto “pais separados” – como a percebem, o que pensam, o que sentem e o que fazem. / Since the late 1990s, paternity has come to be the subject of scientific and legal interests. Many
studies were done, seeking to verify possible consequences of the presence / absence of the
father in the development of children; Others have investigated the phenomena of parental
involvement; Researches were also made, describing that over time, the way of exercising
paternity had significant changes. A number of laws have been issued on the subject (such as
the latest Law 13.058 / 14, which provides for the application of shared custody), which
contributes to the legitimacy of the father as a person with a singular role, bearer of rights and
duties. Other investigations have also turned to paternal behavior - having as a source of data
the perceptions of children and spouses about these parents. It is noteworthy, however, that in
the current state of art, little attention was paid to the subjectivity of fathers – looking for
understanding how these characters nowadays think, feel and act as parents. The present
research was theoretically referenced in the Cultural Psychology of Semiotic Guidance and
aimed to explore the possible ways of constructing meanings on paternity by fathers who
underwent the personal transition of the conjugal separation, in a historical moment marked by
transitions in the form of assigning meanings to the experience of being a man and being a
father. For this, four parents, representatives of paternities built in diverse conditions - age;
separation time; guardian mode; cohabitation with children; marital status; social class - were
interviewed, providing qualitative exploration on the topic. The research obtained as indicative
results on which social routes the community has made available to mark the affective
experience of paternity in the context of conjugal separation, as well as indicatives as to what
semiotic resources are being used by contemporary fathers to mean their experiences - how they
perceive it, what they think, what they feel and what they do
