Defesa: Curitiba,18/11/2013 / Inclui referências / Resumo: As questões que abordarei neste trabalho decorrem da pesquisa etnográfica realizada com as escolas de samba participantes dos carnavais de Curitiba (PR) entre 2008 e 2013. A complexa experiência dos membros das escolas de samba traz questões interessantes para pensarmos não somente o carnaval em si, mas também coloca desafios sobre como pensar a cidade, seu imaginário, suas disputas, segregações e usos dos espaços públicos. Neste sentido, salientam-se as questões relacionadas aos espaços intervalares, às mediações e negociações que ocorrem no espaço urbano entre as variadas esferas (a oficial, a cotidiana e performática), de forma dinâmica. Ao apreendermos o carnaval não apenas em seu momento de entretenimento, inserimos esta manifestação na arena de disputas, que é o concurso carnavalesco em sua própria natureza, mas também uma arena de disputas das manifestações culturais populares na "agenda cultural" da cidade de Curitiba, em que o carnaval é uma delas e, como pretendo demonstrar, por razões muito específicas.
Palavras-chaves: carnaval; festa popular; escola de samba; Curitiba. / Abstract: The questions that will be problematized in this research derive from the ethnographic research realized with Samba Schools of Curitiba that engaged in its Carnival fests between 2008 and 2013. The complex experience of members of these Samba Schools arises interesting questions to think not only about Carnival in itself, but also about challenges facing the understanding of the City, its imaginary, its disputes, segregations and use of public spaces. In this sense, we highlight issues related to intervallic spaces, processes of mediation and negotiation that take place in the urban space between varied spheres (the official one, the daily one and the performatic one), in a dynamic way. By comprehending Carnival not only as a moment of entertaining, we insert this cultural demonstration in the arena of disputes, that is the Carnival contest by its own nature, but also an arena of disputes of cultural and popular demonstrations in the "official cultural agenda" of the city of Curitiba, in which Carnival is one of them and, as we wish to demonstrate, because of very specific reasons.
