Defesa: Curitiba, 09/12/2010 / Inclui referências / Área de concentração : Entomologia / Resumo: Leucopodella Hull, 1949 é um gênero de sirfídeos neotropicais pertencente à Bacchini, com distribuição exclusiva na Região Neotropical. O gênero é composto por espécies de tamanho diminuto, sem tubérculo facial, asas com padrão característico de manchas, fêmur posterior com discreto espessamento em direção ao ápice e abdome peciolado. A maioria das espécies descritas foi inicialmente alocada em Baccha Fabricius, 1805. Em 1949 uma parte das espécies neotropicais, até então incluídas em Baccha, foi transferida para Leucopodella, quando Hull propôs um novo gênero para alocar espécies que não possuíam tubérculo na face. Os objetivos são os seguintes: contribuir para o conhecimento da sistemática do gênero neotropical Leucopodella, bem como da família Syrphidae, pelo estudo de seus caracteres morfológicos e do relacionamento filogenético entre suas espécies. No presente estudo, as oito espécies pertencentes a esse gênero foram redescritas: L. balboa (Hull, 1947), L. bigoti (Austen, 1893), L. boabdilla (Hull, 1947), L. delicatula (Hull, 1943), L. gracilis (Williston, 1891), L. incompta (Austen, 1893), L. marmorata (Bigot, 1884), L. rubida (Williston, 1891). Foi descrita uma variação na espécie de L. gracilis. Foram apresentados: chave de identificação para as espécies, lista catalográfica, mapas de distribuição geográfica, fotografias da morfologia externa e ilustrações das terminálias dos machos. Uma hipótese de relacionamento filogenético para as espécies de Leucopodella é apresentada, baseada na morfologia externa dos adultos e nas terminálias dos machos. Foram incluídos na análise 14 táxons terminais: nove reconhecidos como pertencentes ao gênero Leucopodella (ingroups) e cinco representantes de outros grupos: Argentinomyia lanei Fluke, Platycheirus hyperboreus Staeger, P. obscurus Say, Baccha elongata Fabricius e B. obscuricornis Loew (outgroups). A análise da matriz contendo 40 caracteres resultou em um cladograma mais parcimonioso. A monofilia do gênero foi confirmada.
Palavras-chave: Syrphinae, Leucopodella, filogenia, redescrição. / Abstract: Leucopodella Hull, 1949 is a genus of neotropical syrphid flies belonging to the Bacchini, with exclusive distribution in the Neotropical Region. The genus is composed by species of miniature size, without face tubercle, wing with characteristic standard of spots, hind femur with a little swollen towards the apex and petiolated abdomen. The majority of the described species initially was placed in Baccha Fabricius, 1805. In 1949, some species of Neotropical Region, until then in Baccha, had been transferred to Leucopodella, when Hull proposed a new genus to allocate species that had no tubercle o n the face. The objectives are: contribution to the knowledge of the systematics of neotropical genus Leucopodella as well as the family Syrphidae, the study of their morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationships among its species. In the present study, the species of this genus are revised and redescribed: L. balboa (Hull, 1947), L. bigoti (Austen, 1893), L. boabdilla (Hull, 1947), L. delicatula (Hull, 1943), L. gracilis (Williston, 1891), L. incompta (Austen, 1893), L. marmorata (Bigot, 1884), L. rubida (Williston, 1891). Moreover, a variation in the species of L. gracilis is described. Also are presented: key of identification for the species, cataloging list, maps of geographic distribution, photos of the external morphology and illustrations of the male terminalia of the males. A hypothesis of phylogenetic relationship for the species of Leucopodella is presented, based on the external morphology of the adults and in the males terminalia. Fourteen terminal taxa were included in the analysis: nine recognized as belonging to Leucopodella and five of other groups. The analysis of the matrix with 40 characters resulted in one more parsimonious cladogram. The monophyly of the genus was confirmed.
