comportamento polido representa uma condição inerente à comunicação, por
isso não é possível descrever de maneira eficaz as trocas comunicativas sem
considerar as estratégias de polidez linguística. Mesmo variante de cultura para
cultura, entende-se que a polidez apresenta regras em sentido universal,
devido ao conhecimento mútuo dos interlocutores sobre a face e a necessidade
social de orientar-se a ela nas interações. Entendida como fruto da
necessidade de manutenção da harmonia nas relações comunicativas, a
polidez evita ou minimiza o conflito com o interlocutor. Assim, ao abordar um
assunto polêmico ou interagir com pessoas que apresentam características que
rompem com a percepção usual do que é uma pessoa no cotidiano, os falantes
utilizam da polidez para manter o equilíbrio das relações sociais e projetar,
preservar e confirmar imagens de si e do seu grupo, conforme o que é tido
socialmente como correto. Neste estudo, objetiva-se: a) investigar e
compreender as estratégias de polidez linguística utilizadas no discurso dos
professores de um Colégio Estadual localizado em Curitiba (PR), a partir de
suas visões e percepções com relação ao preconceito no ambiente escolar; b)
verificar de que forma as estratégias de polidez aparecem nos enunciados
durante a interação; e c) identificar as motivações da utilização da polidez no
discurso dos professores. A pesquisa fundamenta-se na perspectiva da
Pragmática, no que diz respeito à polidez, a partir do modelo de Brown e
Levinson (1987 [1978]), e de Kerbrat-Orecchioni (2004; 2006), e reflexões
desenvolvidas pelos estudos de Bravo (2000), Rodriguez (2010) e Rajagopalan
(2000). Articula-se tais conceitos à discussão acerca do preconceito, a partir de
contribuições teóricas de autores como Crochík (1995; 2002) e Amaral (1998).
Com relação às técnicas de investigação, optou-se pela realização de
questionários diagnósticos, entrevista individual e do Grupo Focal, como
principal método de geração de dados. A análise dos dados demonstra que as
estratégias de polidez utilizadas pelos professores cumprem o propósito de
projetar imagens positivas de si, a fim de cumprir com as expectativas de
comportamento determinadas pelas normas de conduta do convívio social,
sobretudo quando o indivíduo se apresenta no papel social de professor. Em
outras palavras, a polidez é utilizada a partir das determinações e expectativas
sociais impostas sobre o papel social desempenhado pelos indivíduos. Ora, o
professor utiliza as estratégias de polidez como uma obrigação social, ora,
como uma proteção da sua imagem e da imagem do grupo a que pertence.

thepolite behavior represents an inherent condition to communication, so it is
not possible to describe effectively the communicative changes without
considering the strategies of linguistic politeness. Even variant in each culture, it
is understood that politeness presents rules in universal sense, due to mutual
knowledge of interlocutors about the face and social necessity to be guided to it
in the interactions. Understood as a result of necessity of harmony’s maintain in
the communicative relations, politeness prevents or minimizes the conflict with
the interlocutor. Thus, in addressing of a polemic subject or interact with people
who presents characteristics that break with an usual perception of what a
person is in everyday life, the speakers use the politeness to keep the balance
of social relations and to project – preserve and confirm images from
themselves and their group – as what is correct according to society.In this
study, the objective is: a) investigate and understand the strategies of linguistic
politeness used in teacher’s speech from a State High School localizated in
Curitiba (PR) by their views and perceptions about prejudice in the school
environment; b) verify how the politeness’ strategies appears in the statements
of teachers; c) identify the motivations of the use of politeness in teacher’s
speech. This research is based on the Pragmatic’s perspective with regard to
the politeness from the model of Brown & Levinson (1987 [1978]) and Kerbrat-
Orecchioni (2004;2006), reflections developed by studies of Bravo (2000),
Rodriguez (2010) and Rajagopalan (2000). Those concepts are linked to the
discussion about prejudice, from theoretical contribution of authors like Crochik
(1995. 2002) and Amaral (1998).In relation of the investigation’s techniques, it
has chosen to perform diagnostics questionnaires, personal interview and focus
group as the main method of data generation. The data’s analysis shows that
strategies of politeness used by teachers fulfill the purpose of designing positive
images of themselves in order to fulfill with the expectation of behaviors
determined by the conduct’s rules of social life, especially when they present
themselves in teacher’s social role. In the other words, the politeness is used
due to determination and social expectations imposed on the social role
performed by individuals. Sometimes, the teacher uses the strategies of
politeness as social obligation, other times, as a protection of their image and
the image of the group, which they belong.
