Defesa: Curitiba, 10/12/2014 / Inclui referências (fls. 96-102) / Área de concentração: Estudos linguísticos / Resumo: Narrativas orais fazem parte do nosso dia-a-dia sem que nós nos dessemos conta disso, porém têm funções importantes como p.ex. transmitir mensagens que ensinam uma moral ou algo parecido ao ouvinte, transmitir partes da própria identidade do falante ou a superação de um evento passado, entre outros. Mais que narrativas orais sejam pessoais e altamente individuais, seguem - ao mesmo tempo - padrões culturais e tradicionais. Portanto são os pais que ensinam aos seus filhos a fazerem narrativas orais que atendam às expetativas dos ouvintes, assim que narrativas orais são altamente influenciadas pelas tradições discursivas de uma comunidade de falantes de uma certa língua. É reconhecido como fato na ciência da didática de ensino de línguas estrangeiras que para dominar uma língua estrangeira não basta somente conhecer a gramática e o vocabulário desta língua. Também é necessário dominar padrões pragmáticos e discursivos, entre outros. Porém, quando estamos adultos e queremos aprender uma nova língua já dominamos os padrões discursivos e narrativos de nossa língua materna. Como séria então possível aprender os padrões narrativos da língua estrangeira que queremos estudar e a partir de qual momento no processo de aprendizagem os padrões discursivos podem ser adquiridos? Como se manifestam diferenças entre as expectativas dos ouvintes da língua estrangeira e o padrão disursivo aplicado pelo falante de outra língua materna? Nesta dissertação procuro entender como estudantes da língua alemã que se encontram em etapas diferentes no processo de aprendizagem (alguns ja vivendo na Alemanha, outros fazendo cursos no Instituto Goethe de Curitiba e outros fazendo o curso de letras na UFPR) realizam narrativas orais em alemão e também em português brasileiro, sua língua materna, quando solicitado. Realizei 27 entrevistas com os estudantes da língua alemã e analisei as entrevistas em termos de coerência e coesão, conteúdo, estrutura e organização das narrativas orais e também o emprego de tempos verbais. Destaqua-se como resultado importante e surpreendente que - diferente às expectativas - não é o nível de alemão já alcançado pelo estudante que tem a maior influência sobre a qualidade da narrativa oral. É pelo contrário a performance e a qualidade da narrativa oral na língua materna que sobretudo influencia a qualidade e o sucesso de narrativas orais na língua estrangeira, no caso no alemão. Ensino de alemão no sul do Brasil. / Abstract: Oral narratives are part of our daily life even if we are sometimes not aware about that. However, oral narratives possess important functions, like p.e. transmiting messages that carry a moral or a lesson for the listener of a story, transmiting the individual identity of the speaker or overcoming a passed event or happening. Oral narratives are highly individual depending on the identity of the speaker and the expectives of the listener. But, at the same time, they follow discursive patterns and traditions of one's native language. Consequently the art of storytelling is taught to children by their parents by giving them good and successful examples of oral narratives and inhancing them to attend the expectives of a listener from the same linguistic community. Oral narratives are hence highly affected by the discursive traditions of a linguistic comunity. It is a well known fact in the studies of Foreign Language Teaching that the proficiency in grammar and vocabulary of the foreign language is not enough to speak the target language. It is also necessary to know and to be able to apply discursive and pragmatic patterns of the target language. However, this might seem problematic when we think about adult language learners that already dominate the discursive patterns of their native language. How can they possibly learn and develop proficiency in the use of the discursive patterns of their target language and it which moment of language learning could this be learned? How do differences between the the listerner's expectations (of the target language) and the used discursive pattern by the speaker of another native language manifest? In this study I tried to figure out how students of the German language in different learning stages (some of them living in Germany, others studying an the Goethe Institute Curitiba e some others studying German at the UFPR) fulfill oral narratives in their target language German and their native language brazilian portuguese when requested to tell a story about a small episode of their life. I interviewed 27 students of the German language and analysed those interviews in terms of coerence and cohesion, as well as content, organization of the stories and the use of tenses. It showed out that, surprisingly and against my first assumptions, it is not the achieved level of German that is crucial in terms of success and quality of the story but it is the performance in the native language (brazilian portuguese) that mainly influences the succeed or failure of the oral narrative.
