Defesa: Curitiba, 23/03/2016 / Inclui referências : f. 155-157 / Resumo: Este trabalho tem como objetivo discutir tecnicamente as escolhas referentes à instrumentação e ao emprego da orquestração ao longo do álbum Coisas (1965), o primeiro autoral de Moacir Santos (1926 - 2006). O álbum conta com uma formação instrumental que, assim como outros grupos que passaram por modificações, se relaciona com a formação tradicional das Big Bands. Partindo de uma apresentação biográfica e da revisão dos estudos que trazem Moacir Santos como objeto de pesquisa, este trabalho ainda trata questões como: os termos orquestração e arranjo; formação instrumental de outros grupos; a variedade como elemento artístico. Dividimos a estrutura musical das peças em três planos para classificar as funções dos instrumentos: melodia; background; e seção rítmica (levada). Para apresentar as escolhas de Moacir Santos e a maneira como os instrumentos e as combinações foram empregados nas peças do álbum fizemos uso de: textos e excertos musicais de pontos específicos de alguns instrumentos; figuras das formas das peças; e tabelas que demostram, quantitativamente, o uso dos instrumentos e combinações ao longo do álbum. Ao reunir uma ampla quantidade de instrumentos em seu álbum, Moacir Santos tem a possibilidade de criar um grande número de timbres que podem ser utilizados em diferentes funções, assim, por meio desta pesquisa podemos compreender uma parte de seu processo criativo e evidenciar algumas preferências quanto ao uso dos instrumentos. Palavras-chave: Moacir Santos, Coisas, instrumentação, orquestração, arranjo. / Abstract:This work aims to technically discuss the choice of instrumentation and the use of orchestration throughout the album Coisas (1965), the first of Moacir Santos (1926-2006). The album has an instrumental formation that, as well as other groups that have undergone modifications, relates to the traditional formation of Big Bands. Starting from a biographical presentation and a review of studies focused on Moacir Santos as research object, this work also deals with issues such as: the terms orchestration and arrangement; instrumental formation of other groups; the variety as an artistic element. We divided the pieces' musical structure into three levels to classify the instrument l?s functions: melody; background; rhythm section (rhythm) In order to present Mo cir S ntos? choices and how the instruments nd combin tions were pplied in the lbum?s pieces, we use: texts nd music l excerpts of specific points of some instruments; figures of the pieces? form; and tables that demonstrate, quantitatively, the use of the instruments and combinations throughout the album. While gathering a great number of instruments in his album, Moacir Santos has the chance to create a large number of tones that can be used in different functions, thus, through this research we can understand part of his creative process and highlight some preferences regarding the use of the instruments.
