Previous issue date: 2004-12-10 / The asthma is one of the illnesses that have greater attendance number in the pediatrics emergencies until the current days. The great concern, however, in the asthmatic crisis attendance is to intervene therapeutically, to stabilize clinically the asthmatic child and later to guide her to the discharge from the hospital. By means of the difficulty faced for the community in the primary health attendance, this emergencies attendance is part of the few chances of contact with medical attendance. In order to reduce the crisis of the minors, it is necessary to include information that can influence in the maternal care gave to the asthmatic minor, so from this time the mother perceives the necessary entailing between prevention of the illness through behaviors, educational or cultural changes. This research had as objective to investigate the mother cultural aspects in relation to the care with the son, describing her knowledge on the asthma and from this point to recommend strategies in Health Education, aiming at the illness prevention. We chose the qualitative methodology, with ethnographic study, considering that the considered theoretical referential. Seven accompanying mothers of their children were interviewed in a hospital emergency of secondary level, located in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. In he data collection was used as instruments the participant observation and the semi-structured interview. The results were analysed and reflected by means of the principles that guide the techniques of content analysis with option for the thematic analysis, from the meanings of the mothers´ speeches . Due the analyses descriptions we noticed the mother cultural influence in their asthmatic children´s care. We concluded that the disinformation characteristics and maternal unfamiliarity in relation the son illness demonstrate the implantation necessity of Health Education, just to facilitate the prevention and the promotion of the collective health. / A asma é uma das doenças que tem maior número de atendimento nas emergências pediátricas até os dias atuais. A grande preocupação, no entanto, no atendimento da crise asmática, é intervir terapeuticamente, estabilizar clinicamente a criança asmática e posteriormente encaminhar à alta hospitalar. Com a dificuldade enfrentada pela comunidade no atendimento primário à saúde, esse atendimento emergencial faz parte das poucas oportunidades de contato com atendimento médico. Para que possamos reduzir as crises dos menores, se faz necessário incluir informações que possam influenciar no cuidado materno dispensado ao menor asmático, para que a partir daí, a mãe perceba a vinculação necessária entre prevenção da doença mediante mudanças comportamentais, educacionais ou culturais. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo, investigar aspectos culturais da mãe em relação ao cuidado com o filho, descrevendo o seu conhecimento sobre a asma e, a partir daí, propor estratégias em Educação em Saúde, visando à prevenção da doença. Optamos pela metodologia qualitativa, com estudo etnográfico, dado o referencial teórico proposto. Foram selecionadas, sete mães acompanhantes de seus filhos numa emergência hospitalar de nível secundário, localizada no Município de Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil. Na coleta de dados utilizou-se como instrumentos a observação participante e a entrevista semi-estruturada e essa última foi aplicada na residência das informantes. Os achados foram analisados e refletidos mediante os princípios que norteiam as técnicas de análise de conteúdo, com opção pela análise temática, dos significados das falas das mães. Em decorrência da análise das descrições foi percebido a influência cultural das mães no cuidado de seus filhos asmáticos. Conclui-se que as características de desinformação e desconhecimento materno em relação à doença do filho, demonstra a necessidade de implantação de estratégias de Educação em Saúde, para viabilização da prevenção e a promoção da saúde coletiva.
