Previous issue date: 2006-12-07 / The Quality of Life (QL) in the childhood has been treated as subjective and multidimensional conceptions which embrace several dominions. The objective of this application (or study) was to evaluate the infantile QL, in the context of the public and private school, standing out the most relevant dimensions of the QL in the child s perspective and the relation of the QL with the scholar efficiency. The research adopts a sort of reported study, the quantitative type, and uses qualitative tools for evaluation. It was developed in a private school and also in a public school in Fortaleza Ceará- Brazil in 2006. In that work were involved 90 children; 47 male and 43 female aged between 8 and 11 years old, all matriculated in the 3rd grade of the elementary school. It was applied the AUQEI questionnaire, with a grade of 48, qualitative AUQEI and images with the QL dimension. The acquired data were rated according to the content analyses (Bardin, 1997) and also to the statistics program SPSS. It was proved that in general children QL was satisfactory, presenting an average score of 51,17. The categories which refer to happiness were: Family, Access to material possessions, and Leisure, while the categories related to unhappiness were about Arguments and fights in family, Family absence, and Death/diseases. However the most relevant dimensions expressed shows the Income (72,2%), Physical and Emotional well being (67,0%), Personal Relationships (61,5%) Collective well being and Values (54,4%), Leisure activities (52,0%), and Material well being (42,8%). It didn t occur any relation between the scholar efficiency and the QL. Therefore, even reaching a good level of QL it is necessary to develop the work with theoretical support congruent to the Escola Promotora de Saúde perspective, and also to their strategies and actions, emphasizing the QL as a fundamental pivot (axle) to the promotion of the school health. / A Qualidade de Vida (QV) na infância tem sido tratada como conceito subjetivo e multidimensional que abrange diversos domínios. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a QV infantil no contexto da escola pública e privada, ressaltando as dimensões mais relevantes de QV na ótica da criança e a relação da QV com o rendimento escolar. A pesquisa adota um estudo de natureza descritiva do tipo quantitativo e utiliza ferramentas qualitativas de avaliação. Foi desenvolvida em um colégio privado e em outro público no município de Fortaleza-Ceará-Brasil em 2006; incluiu 90 crianças, sendo 47 do sexo masculino e 43 do feminino, com idades entre oito e onze anos, que estavam regularmente matriculadas na terceira série do ensino fundamental I. Foi aplicado o questionário AUQEI, com uma nota de corte de 48, AUQEI qualitativo e imagens com as Dimensões de QV. Os dados obtidos foram pontuados mediante análise de conteúdo (Bardin, 1997) e o programa estatístico SPSS. Comprovou-se que a QV geral das crianças foi satisfatória, atestando um escore médio final de 51,17; as categorias referentes à felicidade foram Família, Acesso a bens materiais e Lazer, enquanto que as relacionadas à infelicidade dizem respeito a Brigas, Ausência da família e Morte/doença; já as dimensões mais relevantes expressas apontam o Rendimento (72,2%), Bem-estar Físico e Emocional (67,0%), Relações Interpessoais (61,5%), Bem-estar Coletivo e Valores (54,4%), Atividades Recreativas (52,0%) e Bem-estar Material (42,8%); não ocorreu correlação entre o Rendimento Escolar e a QV. Com efeito, mesmo atingindo um nível bom de QV, é sobremaneira necessário que se desenvolvam trabalhos com suportes teóricos congruentes ao enfoque da Escola Promotora de Saúde e suas estratégias e ações, enfatizando a QV como um dos eixos fundamentais para a promoção da saúde na escola.
