Previous issue date: 2010-10-08 / The present work intends to understand the mother-child relationship in the caring of children suffering from obesity. Our main goal is to investigate the meanings that mothers tend to attribute to the child´s obesity at the light of psychoanalytical theory. Our specific goals are 1) To present the importance of the mother-child relationship in the building of the child s body image as well as in the subjetivation of feeding habits; 2) To investigate the subjective implications of an obese child s mother; 3) To research the influence of medical discourse in the meanings attributed by the mother to the child s obesity; 4) To contribute with IPREDE in promoting a possible dialogue with psychoanalytical knowledge, highlighting factors related to the mother-child relationship in children who suffer from obesity. We have therefore done a qualitative research with both bibliographical and field investigations. Between April14 and June 26 2010 we had two interviews with each mother who took part in the Obesity Prevention Program developed by IPREDE. We used the discourse analysis method to orient the field material, organized according to the following categories:1) The meanings attributed to the interventions of the Program to Prevent Obesity; 2) The establishment of the demand for food; 3) Anxiety and symptom formation.We could conclude that the child s obesity can be taken as a symptom of a specific kind of mother-child relationship where anguish appears in splitting situations and food becomes the link between them. The symbolic coordinates of parents determine important conditions for us to reflect upon the suffering and subjectivation in childhood.
Key-words: Child obesity; Medical discourse; Psychoanalyses; Mother-child relationship. / Este estudo parte do interesse de compreender as implicações da relação mãe-criança na problemática da obesidade infantil. Elegemos como objetivo geral investigar no discurso materno os significados atribuídos à obesidade do (a) filho (a) e como específicos: 1. Apresentar na teoria psicanalítica a importância da relação mãe/filho na subjetivação das práticas alimentares e na construção da imagem corporal da criança; 2. Investigar as implicações subjetivas da mãe da criança obesa em um cenário pautado por este tipo de acometimento, tomando a psicanálise como referêncial teórico; 3. Pesquisar a influência do discurso médico nos significados atribuídos pela mãe à obesidade do (a) filho (a); 4. Contribuir com o Programa de Ensino e Pesquisa das Desordens do Comportamento Alimentar e Obesidade do Instituto de Promoção da Nutrição e Desenvolvimento Humano (IPREDE), no sentido de promover um possível diálogo com a psicanálise, relevando fatores relativos à relação mãe-criança presentes no quadro de obesidade. Com vistas à investigação dos objetivos propostos foi realizada uma pesquisa qualitativa com investigação bibliográfica e de campo. No período de 14 de abril a 26 de junho de 2010, foram realizadas com cada mãe que participava do Programa de Prevenção à Obesidade do IPREDE duas entrevistas semi-estruturadas. O método da análise de discurso orientou o trabalho com o material de campo, organizado a partir das seguintes categorias: 1. Os significados atribuídos às intervenções do Programa de Prevenção a Obesidade; 2. O estabelecimento da demanda do alimento; 3. Angústia e formação do sintoma. Diante do percurso empreendido, pode-se concluir que a obesidade da criança pode ser tomada como sintoma de uma modalidade de relação mãe-criança, onde a angústia comparece frente à separação e o alimento se mantém como objeto de ligação da díade. As coordenadas simbólicas dos pais determinam condições importantes para refletirmos sobre as formas de sofrimento e subjetivação na infância.
