Previous issue date: 2015-08-27 / This study was intended to discuss the social time at the stage of maturity, this phase always
marked by losses. Elected to observe how the social time settings of the widowhood mourned
old fellow, on the context of loss in the event of the death of your spouse, once the use of
time is commonly used through shared activities with the spouse. The loss of partner enables
the emergence of grief and loneliness the most intense and prolonged than those caused by
other types of losses. Experience the death of a spouse is one of the major challenges to be
faced by the elderly, as marks of great repercussion in the subject's life. Thus, the present
study aimed to investigate elderlies´s social time reconfigurations after spouse´s loss by
death. For this end were interviewed six senior citizens of both genders who have lost their
spouses. The data collection instruments used in this research were: (a) participant
observation and (b) narrative interview. During the interviews, detailed narratives were
explored in the elderlies´s history life, in order to understand how the social time was formed
in marital relationship, investigate the experience of loss from the perspective of the elderly
bereaved and identify how the elderly makes use of your social time after loss of spouse. In
order to complement the vision, read by subject provided by the interview, we used
participant observation, contributing to a vision of the phenomenon more focused on the
perspective of the researcher. The method of analysis used, with regard to participant
observation, was the analysis of ethnographic account and, for the interviews, were analyzed
by the identification of targeted categories by the technique of the collective subject discourse
(DSC). A procedural analysis was carried out throughout the period of observations through
ethnographic account; and, simultaneously, the interviews were conducted and transcribed.
Later, the speeches were grouped into categories. The situations encountered were related to
the theories found in the literature. The results showed that the spouse´s death impact at the
elderlies´s social time manifest themselves in the family sphere, finitude, social support,
health, change in routine, spirituality and new relationships.
Keywords: time, mourning, elderly. / Este estudo discute acerca do tempo social na fase da maturidade, período sempre marcado
por perdas e ganhos que devem ser administrados. Para este estudo, observou-se como
operam os ajustes do tempo social do sujeito idoso ante o contexto da perda por morte de seu
cônjuge, uma vez que o uso do tempo é comumente utilizado por meio de atividades
compartilhadas. Experienciar a morte do cônjuge é um dos grandes desafios a ser enfrentado
pelo idoso, porquanto marco de grande repercussão na vida deste sujeito. Assim, teve como
objetivo investigar as reconfigurações no tempo social do idoso enlutado. Para tal foram
entrevistados seis idosos de ambos os gêneros que perderam por morte seus cônjuges. Os
instrumentos de coleta de dados utilizados foram: (a) observação participante e (b) entrevista
narrativa. No que se refere às entrevistas, foram exploradas narrativas detalhadas da história
de vida do idoso, visando a compreender de que maneira o tempo social era constituído na
relação conjugal, investigar a experiência da perda na perspectiva dos idosos enlutados e
identificar de que maneira o idoso faz uso de seu tempo social após a perda do cônjuge. No
intuito de complementar a visão narrada pelo sujeito propiciada pela entrevista, utilizou-se a
observação participante, contribuindo para uma visão do fenômeno mais voltada para a
perspectiva do pesquisador. O método de exame utilizado, no que se refere à observação
participante, foi a análise do relato etnográfico e, quanto às entrevistas, foram analisadas pela
identificação de categorias orientadas pela técnica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo (DSC).
Foi realizada uma análise processual ao longo do período de observações mediante o relato
etnográfico; e, simultaneamente, as entrevistas foram realizadas e transcritas. Posteriormente,
os discursos coletados foram agrupados em categorias. As situações encontradas foram
relacionadas às teorias encontradas na literatura. Os resultados apontaram que os impactos da
morte do cônjuge no tempo social do idoso se manifestam na esfera da família, finitude,
suporte social, saúde, mudanças na rotina, espiritualidade e novos relacionamentos.
