Previous issue date: 2014 / Com base no romance Leite derramado, de Chico Buarque de Hollanda, esta tese centra-se no
estudo da memória social brasileira no período de formação do Brasil moderno, retratado no
romance buarqueano pelo narrador Eulálio. Nesse sentido, a hipótese que norteia o presente
trabalho é a de que o romance pode ser lido como uma alegoria do Brasil, uma vez que o
personagem-narrador mescla à sua, a memória do país. Para confirmar essa hipótese, este
trabalho tenta explorar os dois aspectos da memória em Leite derramado: um a partir da
leitura de Proust feita por Deleuze, a memória do sujeito agindo como busca da verdade, e o
outro, a partir de Le Goff, a memória coletiva, abrindo espaço para os estudos de Ecléa Bosi.
Ou seja: na junção dos dois aspectos, encontrados no narrador do romance, pode-se trabalhar
a memória individual e coletiva como forma e matéria para a construção alegórica da história
brasileira em que seriam postas duas buscas simultâneas de uma verdade: a pessoal e a social.
Assim, por meio da senil memória de Eulálio, o leitor pode traçar um panorama dos principais
problemas sociais brasileiros ocorridos no final do século XIX e início do século XX, tais
como: os conflitos de classe, o patriarcalismo, a decadência da tradicional oligarquia do país,
os preconceitos existentes contra os grupos sociais minoritários. / Based on the novel Leite derramado (Spilledmilk), by Chico Buarque de Hollanda, this thesis
focuses on the study of brazilian social memory in the formative period of modern Brazil,
portrayed in the novel by the narrator Eulálio. In this sense, the hypothesis guiding this study
is that the novel can be read as an allegory of Brazil, since the character-narrator gets his, the
memory of the country. To confirm this hypothesis, this paper attempts to explore two aspects
of memory in Leite derramado (Spilledmilk): one from reading Proust made by Deleuze, the
memory of the person acting as a search for truth and the other from Le Goff, memory
collective, making room for studies Ecléa Bosi. Ie: at the junction of the two aspects, found in
the narrator of the novel, one can work at the individual and collective memory as form and
matter to the allegorical construction of brazilian history that would put two simultaneous
search of a truth: the personal and social. Thus, by means of Eulálio’s senile memory, the
reader can trace an overview of the major brazilian social problems that occurred in the late
nineteenth century and early twentieth century, such as: class conflicts, patriarchy, the decay
of the traditional oligarchy of the country, the existing prejudices against minority social
groups.
