Previous issue date: 2009-04-29 / Esta dissertação trata das configurações da tradição no contexto da modernidade em Venda Nova do Imigrante, cidade colonizada por imigrantes italianos no final do Séc. XIX, localizada na região serrana do Espírito Santo. Analisa - por meio de análise documental, entrevistas, observação participante e análise de indícios - como as tradições dos imigrantes italianos, em suas diferentes formas e sentidos, permanecem, se reinventam e se resignificam na atualidade e o papel dos sujeitos nessa construção social. Utiliza a trajetória de uma das mais importantes manifestações culturais da cidade a Festa da Polenta e a história de vida de seu fundador padre Cleto Caliman como fio condutor para compreender como a tradição - ou as tradições - se reinventa, apresentando-se como um estilo de vida na modernidade, através da lógica local de inovar preservando. / The present dissertation deals with the different patterns of tradition as
far as modernity is concerned in Venda Nova do Imigrante, a town in
the mountains of Espírito Santo that has thriven after the Italian
immigrants arrived there in the end of the 19
th century. A range of
varied analyses - documental and indicative analyses, interviews and
participatory observation - shows how the Italian immigrants traditions
remain, in their different ways and meanings, rearranged and renewed
at present as well as the role of the subjects in this social construction.
Its guideline is one of the major cultural manifestations in town the
Polenta Festival and the life story of its founding father Father
Cleto Caliman in order to grasp how such tradition or traditions
are made over coming out as a life style nowadays trough the local
logic of innovating though preserving . Key words: tradition; modernity; life style; management; Italian
immigration.
