Previous issue date: 2010-07-30 / A presente pesquisa se ocupa da análise dos conteúdos do canto comunitário, a
canção religiosa popular, ocorrente nos rituais do grupo religioso Igreja Universal do
Reino de Deus (IURD) procurando identificar neles a prevalência dos elementos
constitutivos e característicos da religiosidade matricial brasileira. Foram consideradas
como premissas a existência de uma religiosidade matricial brasileira resultante da
confluência e amálgama das culturas indígenas, ibero-americanas e africanas; a
sincretização em contexto pentecostal-evangélico desses elementos da religiosidade
popular na constituição da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (IURD), fato que
possibilitou o seu rápido florescimento nas últimas décadas; a realidade da utilização do
canto comunitário como forma expressiva e impressiva nos rituais religiosos; e, o fato de
os textos das canções religiosas apresentarem descrições e prescrições da religiosidade de
uma comunidade. Para atingir o objetivo foi necessário definir, avaliar e conjugar algumas
ferramentas de análise. Foram utilizadas as ferramentas de análise da canção popular
propostas por Luiz Tatit, da análise da canção religiosa propostos por Harry Eskew &
Hugh McElrath e David Music & Milburn Price, da Análise do discurso propostos José
Luiz Fiorin e de Eni Puccinelli Orlandi e das formas simbólicas propostos por Susanne K.
Langer. / This research deals with the analyze of the community singing’s content, the popular
religious song, occurrent in the rituals of the religious group Universal Church of the
Kingdom of God (UCKG), trying to identify in them the prevalence of the components and
features of the Brazilian religious matrix. As assumptions, were considered the existence of
a Brazilian religious matrix resulting from the confluence and amalgamation of indigene,
Latin American and African cultures; the syncretization of those elements of the popular
religion in the constitution of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), in the
evangelical-Pentecostal context, a fact which enabled its fast growth in the last decades;
the reality of the use of community singing in an expressive and impressive way in the
religious rituals; and the fact that the texts of religious songs are descriptions and precepts
of a given community’s religiousness. To achieve the purpose it was necessary to define,
evaluate and combine some analysis tools. The tools used were the analysis of the popular
song proposed by Luiz Tatit, the analysis of the religious song proposed by Harry Eskew &
Hugh McElrath and David Music & Milburn Price, the discourse analysis proposed by José
Luiz Fiorin and Eni Puccinelli Orlandi, and the analysis of the symbolic forms proposed by
Susanne K. Langer.
