Previous issue date: 2013 / Mestrado Acadêmico em Ciências do Cuidado em Saúde / Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva-exploratória, que utilizou o método de história de vida, que teve como objeto de estudo o envelhecimento e a finitude na trajetória de vida dos idosos hospitalizados. Os objetivos do estudo foram descrever a trajetória de vida do idoso, identificar a perspectiva de envelhecimento e finitude na trajetória de vida do idoso hospitalizado, discutir as implicações dessas perspectivas para o cuidado de enfermagem ao idoso hospitalizado. A pesquisa teve como cenário as unidades de clínicas médica masculina e feminina e cirúrgica masculina e feminina de um hospital Universitário situado em Niterói. A coleta de dados se deu através de entrevista aberta com 15 idosos hospitalizados durante o período de março a agosto de 2012. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam para a primeira categoria (Re)Vivendo Histórias surgiram três sub-categorias: O jogo da memória no significado do envelhecer - os idosos rememoram aspectos vividos desde infância, que apresenta sentido negativos e positivos da velhice; Percebendo as “perdas” no carrossel da vida - os idosos revelaram que durante a trajetória de vida, perceberam a maior predominância das perdas, e assim, influenciou para a forma de enfrentamento e reflexão diante da sua hospitalização; Superando os limites da vida - os idosos discutiram sobre as fases dificultosas que passaram no decorrer da vida, em que houve a necessidade de superação para encontrar um novo sentido à vida. Na segunda categoria Refletindo Situações Limites da Vida Durante a Hospitalização surgiram duas sub-categorias que foram: Compreendendo sua própria finitude diante da hospitalização - os sujeitos refletiram sobre a própria finitude no ambiente hospilar, enfatizando essa percepção através das perdas enfrentadas na história de vida da; Analisando as novas perspectivas diante da vida - os idosos manifestaram grande influência para revalorização dos seus significados, enquanto sujeitos cidadãos dotados de direitos e deveres na sociedade. Conclui-se que trazer à tona essas representações sobre as perspectiva do envelhecimento e finitude aos idosos hospitalizados, permitiu a análise da história de vida em que possibilitou reflexão quanto o sentido da sua existência, tendo em vista que as representações das perdas são comuns aos idosos, e remetem-se no momento da hospitalização por decorrência da fragilidade e vulnerabilidade. Então, as ações voltadas para a assistência à população idosa internada devem contribuir para o bem estar físico e psíquico, além do maior envolvimento da equipe de saúde na compreensão da finitude e do envelhecimento, uma vez que há representações sociais negativas impostas pela sociedade, na qual a temática é empurrada para o confinamento institucional. / It is a descriptive-exploratory, qualitative research that has used the method of life history and that has as aim to study aging and finiteness in the life trajectory of institutionalized elderly. The objectives of the study have been to describe the life trajectory of the elderly, to identify the perspective of aging and finiteness in the life trajectory of the institutionalized elderly, to discuss the implications of these perspectives for the nursing care of the institutionalized elderly. The research had as environment the male and female medical clinic units and male and female surgical units of a University hospital in Niteroi. Data collection was made through open interview with 15 institutionalized elderly during the period from March through August, 2012. The research results indicate for the first category (Re)Living Histories and three subcategories came out of it: The memory game in the meaning of aging – elder people remember aspects lived since childhood with negative and positive senses of elderly; Perceiving the “losses” in the life merry-go-round – elder people revealed that during life trajectory they have perceived the great predominance of losses and, thus, it has influenced the way of facing and reflecting about the difficult times they lived during their lives and in which there was the need of overcoming the fact for finding a new sense for life. In the second category, Reflecting the Limit Situations of Life During Institutionalization two categories came out: Understanding their own finiteness before institutionalization – subjects reflected on their own finiteness in the hospital environment, emphasizing this perception through the losses faced in life history; Analyzing the new perspectives before life – elderly manifested a great influence for revalorization of their meanings, as citizens with rights and duties in the society. One concludes that giving life to theses representations on the perspectives of aging and finiteness to the institutionalized elderly allowed the analysis of the life history in which it was possible the reflection as to the meaning of their existence, since the representations of the losses are common to elder people and they are alive at the moment of institutionalization due to their fragility and vulnerability. So, the actions towards to the assistance to the elder population institutionalized should contribute for the physical and psychic well-being, besides the greatest involvement of the health team in the understanding of the finiteness and aging, since there are negative social representations imposed by society, in which the theme is pushed to the institutional confinement.
