Previous issue date: 2007-11-01 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / This Dissertation has as theme the study of the language, of the history and of the Pre-modernism and takes as object of the research Lima Barreto s literary tale, produced on the twentieth century. It s a research that studies the Portuguese language in use in Brazil, giving privilege to the linguistic characteristics of rupture with the formal language that constitutes the stylistic resources of Lima Barreto, expressed on the tale Harakashy e as Escolas de Java. Our research enters into the Linguistic Historiography area, on the perspective postulated by Konrad Koerner, whose process of analysis of documents is supported by the interdisciplinary between the Linguistics and the History. So, we can recover in that literary document, aspects of the socio-cultural reality by means of the interpretation of the language. In that period of transition to Brazilian Modernism, our sample takes form as a rich document with information for the work of the historiographer of the language, because in the analysis of the structural and macro structural organization of the tale it s clear the cultural, historical and even so, political-social influence of that period of literary production. The textual genre, taken here as study, presents some of the linguistic-historical changes that were reflected on the Portuguese Language, registered by the author, that still characterizes his antipurist manifestations among the academicians of that period. When he uses the metalanguage to refer to his own language, Lima Barreto starts an innovation to the linguistic questions of the beginning of the twentieth century, besides showing the everyday problems of the Brazilian society. In the tale in analysis we find a thematic polemic to the period that it was produced, because the author introduces to the narrative questions about what is human, assuming a tone of denunciation of the facts of the social reality, pronounced by the fiction / Esta Dissertação tem como tema o estudo da língua, da história e das marcas do Pré-modernismo e toma como objeto de pesquisa o conto literário de Lima Barreto, produzido no segundo decênio do século XX. Trata-se de uma pesquisa que estuda a Língua Portuguesa em uso no Brasil, privilegiando as marcas lingüísticas de ruptura com a língua formal, que constituem os recursos estilísticos de Lima Barreto, expressas no conto Harakashy e as Escolas de Java. Nossa pesquisa se insere na área da Historiografia Lingüística, nas perspectivas postuladas por Konrad Koerner, cujo processo de análise de documentos é favorecido pela interdisciplinaridade entre a Lingüística e a História. Assim, podemos recuperar nesse documento literário aspectos da realidade sociocultural por meio da interpretação da língua. Nesse período de transição para o Modernismo brasileiro, a nossa amostra se configura como um documento rico em informações para o trabalho do historiógrafo da língua, pois na análise da organização estrutural e macroestrutural do conto é nítida a influência cultural, histórica e até mesmo político-social desse período de produção literária. O gênero textual, tomado aqui como estudo, apresenta algumas das mudanças histórico-lingüísticas que se refletiram na Língua Portuguesa, registrada pelo autor, o que ainda caracteriza suas manifestações antipuristas em meio aos acadêmicos da época. Ao fazer uso da metalinguagem para reportar-se à própria língua, Lima Barreto principia uma inovação frente às questões lingüísticas do início do século XX, além de retratar os problemas cotidianos da sociedade brasileira. No conto em análise, encontramos uma temática polêmica para a época em que foi produzido, pois o autor introduz na narrativa questionamentos sobre o que é humano, assumindo um tom de denúncia dos fatos da realidade social, proferidos pela ficção
