Previous issue date: 2016-09-30 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation proposes to analyze the novel “Cidade de Deus”, from Paulo Lins, published in 2002. It aims verify the relation between reality and ficcion in the novel and the way it gives the real representation in the narrative, particulary with regard to violence besides demonstrating the organization of geographicals that is present trough documentary and memoir writers marks. The dissertation seeks to answer the follow problematic: to what extent the image of reality, created by Paulo Lins, circumscribe in g urban violence and neo-realism? How Lins proposes a symbolic pace and memoirist to create, in "Cidade de Deus", a geographical and fictional space? "Cidade de Deus" brings aspects of brazilian reality, combined with ethnographic research on violence, crime and drug trafficking housing of "Cidade de Deus". The violent and brutal scenes give the novel the effect of reality and tries to awaken a reflection on violence and how it becomes a constitutive element in our country. The theoretical framework focuses on scholars as: Antonie Compagnon, Luiz Costa Lima, Karl Erik Schollhamer, Tânia Pellegrini, Alejandro Reyes, and Paulo Roberto Patrocínio. Among the final comments, it is demonstrated that, trough the representation of violence and its internal look, the author constructed a narrative based on crime, producing multiple meanings to the violence / Esta dissertação propõe-se analisar o romance Cidade de Deus, de Paulo Lins, publicado em 2002. Tem como objetivos verificar a relação entre realidade e ficção no romance e a maneira que se dá a representação do real na narrativa, principalmente no que diz respeito à violência, além de demonstrar a organização do espaço geográfico que se faz presente por meio de marcas documentais e memorialista. A dissertação busca responder a seguinte problemática: Até que ponto a imagem da realidade, criada por Paulo Lins, circunscreve a violência urbana e um neorrealismo? Como Lins propõe um espaço simbólico e memorialista ao criar, em Cidade de Deus, um espaço geográfico e ficcional? Cidade de Deus traz aspectos da realidade brasileira, aliado a uma pesquisa etnográfica sobre a violência, criminalidade e tráfico de drogas no conjunto habitacional Cidade de Deus. As cenas violentas e brutais conferem ao romance o efeito de realidade e tenta despertar uma reflexão acerca da violência e como se torna elemento constitutivo em nosso país. A fundamentação teórica centra-se em estudiosos como: Antonie Compagnon, Luiz Costa Lima, Karl Erik Schollhammer, Tânia Pellegrini, Alejandro Reyes e Paulo Roberto Patrocínio. Entre as considerações finais, demonstra que, por meio da representação da violência e do seu olhar interno, o autor construiu uma narrativa baseada na criminalidade, produzindo múltiplos sentidos sobre a violência
