Previous issue date: 2013-07-16 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The objectives of this study were to see the puberty/sexual maturity events and to asses pre-natal use/loss through of uterus phenotypic dates from Piau breed and Commercial line gilts. In the first phase, were used 62 gilts (37 Piau breed and 25 Commercial line), from 120 days of age until demonstrate the third estrous. In the second phase, 54 females were inseminated and distributed in three groups based on the type of crossing: Group 1: Commercial line females x Commercial line male (n=18); Group 2: Piau breed females x Commercial line male (n=18) and Group 3: Piau breed females x Piau breed male (n=18). Each group was divided in six subgroups based on the pregnancy age out slaughter (7, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 90d). In the first phase, there was no difference between the puberty age (203.7±37.7; 190.5±28d) and sexual maturity (247.2±38.5; 236.8±27.6d) in Piau breed and Commercial line gilts, respectively (P>0.05). In the second phase, the Commercial line females had higher ovulation rate, uterine weight and length and thoracic perimeter and length fetuses (P<0.05), however, the number of fetuses was similar in all groups (P>0.05) at 90 days of pregnancy. Moreover, the placental efficiency had a linear behavior with respect to advancing gestational age, without differences among the three groups (P>0.05). The results demonstrate that puberty and sexual maturity events in Piau breed and Commercial line females are related with the age and, at 90 days of pregnancy, the Piau breed females have the same behavior about placental efficiency that Commercial line females. The Piau breed females have higher embryonic/fetal survival until the end of pregnancy with respect to ovulation rate within the group. / Este estudo teve como objetivos comparar os eventos de puberdade/maturidade sexual e avaliar o aproveitamento/perda pré-natal por meio de dados biométricos do útero gestante de marrãs de raça Piau e de linhagem Comercial. Na primeira fase, foram utilizadas 62 marrãs (37 de raça Piau e 25 de linhagem Comercial), a partir dos 120 dias de idade até a manifestação do terceiro estro. Na segunda fase, 54 fêmeas foram inseminadas e distribuídas em três grupos experimentais de acordo com o tipo de cruzamento: Grupof: fêmeas de linhagem Comercial x macho de linhagem Comercial (n=18); Grupo 2: fêmeas da raça Piau x macho de linhagem Comercial (n=18) e Grupo 3: fêmeas da raça Piau x macho da raça Piau (n=18). Cada um destes grupos foi dividido em seis subgrupos baseado na idade gestacional ao momento do abate (7, 15, 30, 45, 60 e 90 dias). No primeiro experimento, não houve diferença (P>0,05) entre as marrãs da raça Piau e Linhagem Comercial para a idade à puberdade (203,7i37,7 vs. 190,5i28 dias) e maturidade sexual (247,2i38,5 vs. 236,8i27,6 dias). No segundo experimento, as fêmeas de linhagem Comercial tiveram maior taxa de ovulação, peso e comprimento do útero e perímetro torãcico e comprimento dos fetos (P<0,05), porém, o número de fetos totais foi similar em todos os grupos aos 90 dias de gestação (P>0,05). Além disso, a eficiência placentária teve um comportamento linear em relação ao avanço da idade gestacional, sem observar diferença entre os três grupos (P>0,05). Os resultados mostram que os eventos de puberdade e maturidade sexual em fêmeas da raça Piau e linhagem Comercial estão relacionados com a idade e, aos 90 dias de gestação, as fêmeas da raça Piau apresentam o mesmo comportamento de eficiência placentária que fêmeas de linhagem Comercial. As fêmeas da raça Piau apresentam maior sobrevivência embrionária/fetal até o final da gestação em relação à taxa de ovulação dentro da raça.
