Previous issue date: 2012 / O Festival de Inverno de Ouro Preto (MG), promovido anualmente, nos meses de julho, entre 1967 e 1979, foi uma experiência singular na vida cultural brasileira, mas, ao mesmo tempo, relacionada diretamente a diferentes transformações culturais e políticas que ocorriam naqueles anos. O evento possuía como base os cursos de férias de música e artes plásticas, entre outros, a realização de exposições e espetáculos e o incentivo ao turismo cultural. Promovido pela UFMG, tornou-se uma das maiores experiências de extensão universitária do país e estava diretamente ligada ao processo de modernização promovido pela reforma universitária de 1968. Atraía à cidade histórica, anualmente, centenas de cursistas, professores e artistas, além de milhares de visitantes. Paralela às atividades oficiais do evento, havia uma intensa movimentação, na qual se destacava a vida noturna e as manifestações da crítica aos costumes, como a liberdade sexual e o uso de substâncias alteradoras de consciência. O que provocou a reação dos setores mais conservadores da cidade e a repressão do Estado. Neste trabalho, analisamos algumas das transformações culturais e políticas que ocorreram nas décadas de 1960 e 1970, assim como as experiências históricas oriundas dessas mudanças e suas relações com os Festivais de Inverno de Ouro Preto. A partir dessas transformações e experiências procuramos analisar o cotidiano destes Festivais nas suas diferentes esferas e identificar os processos de circulação cultural, assim como os conflitos e as tensões presentes na cidade durante a realização do evento. Como fruto das negociações e das estratégias utilizadas pelos organizadores do Festival, a continuidade do evento seria marcada por contradições e ambiguidades. As diferentes transformações políticas e culturais foram as responsáveis tanto pelos conflitos que envolviam o Festival de Inverno tanto pela sua continuidade. ________________________________________________________________________________________ / ABSTRACT: Ouro Preto Winter Festival, annually promoted in July from 1967 until 1979, was a unique experience in Brazilian cultural life. At the same time, it was directly related to different cultural and political transformations that were happening in those years. The event was basedon music and plastic arts vacation courses, the realization of exhibitions and spectacles and cultural tourism incentive, among others. Promoted by UFMG, it became one of the greatest university extension programs of the country and it was directly connected to the modernization process promoted by the university reform of 1968.It used to draw to the historic city hundreds of students, teachers and artists every year, beyond thousands of visitants. Besides the official activities, there was an intense cultural movement, of which stand out the nightlife and the critique of habits and customs such as the sexual freedom and the use of mind-altering substances. It provoked the reaction of the most society’s conservative sectors and the Government repression. In this work we will analyze some of the cultural and political transformations which happened during 1960 and 1970, as well as the historical experiences derived from those changes and their relation to Ouro Preto Winter Festivals. From those transformations and experiences we aimed to analyze the quotidian of those Festivals in its different spheres and identify the process of cultural circulation, as well as the conflicts and tensions in the city during the event. As a consequence of the negotiations and strategies used by the Festival organizers, the event’s continuity would be marked by contradictions and ambiguities. The political and cultural changes were responsible for the conflicts that involved the Festival as well as its continuity.
