Previous issue date: 2009-03-26 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / The objective of this work was checked Candida's percentage spp in oropharynx of ostriches
(Struthio camelus) and he valued in vitro the virulence of the isolated strains. The motivation for
this research was due to the fact of the ostrich be exotic sorts and for the ignorance of the
potential microrganisms that this one has. The animals were divided in four groups, totalizing 80
samples. The research of the presence of the agent in swabs originating from the birds was done
in the Laboratory of Patogenic Yeasts and You set, Depto of Microbiology and Imunology
Veterinary, Institute of Veterinary, UFRRJ, for processing of same, with sowings in environment
of cultivation on Sabouraud dextrose agar. The confirmation of isolations were carried out
through tests of macromorphology, micromorphology, realization of auxanogram, zimogram and
complementary proofs. Of the total of samples of the oropharynx, 32,5 % obtained growth with
yeasts, only or accompanied by moulds. The growth of C. albicans corresponded to 65,38 % of
the total of isolates. The most of the isolated ones were strongly positive for production of
protease and approximately also they showed half of these positive samples for the production of
phospholipases what suggests some degree of virulence of these strains.
(Struthio camelus) e avaliar a virul?ncia in vitro das esp?cies isoladas.
destas amostras.
