Em um estudo Cientométrico sobre o assunto Brasil como nome geográfico no campo das Ciências Sociais investiga-se o uso do artigo científico na decisão de investimento na economia globalizada. Foram capturados, tabulados e analisados dados bibliográficos (SciELO, SSCI e SCOPUS) e dados de investimento estrangeiro (Banco Central do Brasil), de 1991 até 2010, para responder a três perguntas: (i) existe relação entre os investimentos estrangeiros realizados no Brasil no século XXI e os artigos sobre o Brasil indexados em bases de dados internacionais?; (ii) em qual estágio de crescimento das necessidades e usos da informação está a comunidade científica que investiga este assunto?; e (iii) esta comunidade se vincula com a sociedade através de produções externalistas, em que o texto se relaciona ao contexto socioeconômico? Trata-se de uma pesquisa quantitativa na qual são utilizados métodos estatísticos para coletar, analisar, interpretar e apresentar os dados e seguintes resultados: (i) sim, o Brasil tornou-se interessante como objeto de pesquisa e local de investimento, com notório crescimento em ambos, no século XXI, entretanto estes interesses não se relacionam entre si; (ii) sim, foram identificados um moroso processo evolutivo (crescimento e expansão) da coautoria bem como um estágio de crescimento lento, com estudos multifacetados no campo e com uma colaboração ainda incipiente, não sendo possível considerá-los uma frente de pesquisa; e (iii) sim, a comunidade científica que estuda o Brasil se vincula à sociedade através de produções externalistas. / In a scientometric study about the Brazil as the subject geographical name in the field of Social Sciences we investigate the use of the scientific paper in the investment decision in the globalized economy. Were captured, analyzed and tabulated bibliographic data (SciELO, SSCI and SCOPUS) and foreign investment data (Banco Central do Brasil) from 1991 to 2010 to answer three questions: (i) Is there a relationship between the foreign investments made in Brazil in the XXI century and articles about Brazil indexed in international databases? (ii) In what stage of growth the needs and uses of information is that the scientific community investigates this matter? (iii) This community is linked to society through externalist productions, where the text is related to the socio-economic context? This is a quantitative research in which statistical methods are used to collect, analyze, interpret and present the data and following results: (i) yes, Brazil has become interesting as a research subject and local investment, with noticeable growth in both the twenty-first century, however, these interests do not relate to each other, (ii) yes, we have identified a lengthy evolutionary process (growth and expansion) of co-authoring, as well as a stage of slow growth, with multifaceted studies in the field and with an incipient collaboration, it is not possible to consider them as a research front; and (iii) yes, the scientific community studying Brazil is linked to society through externalist productions.
