Este trabalho estuda a variação da temperatura atmosférica superficial no planalto Meridional-riograndense pelo exame de séries temporais compostas a partir dos dados de cinco estações meteorológicas da região: Cruz Alta, Iraí, Lagoa Vermelha, Passo Fundo e São Luiz Gonzaga. Os dados, coletados junto ao 8° Distrito de Meteorologia/Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia, permitiram o estudo da variações na temperatura média anual (TMA), mínima média anual (TMinMA) e da máxima média anual (TMaxMA) para o período de 1938-2004. Determinou-se também, variações na amplitude média anual (AMA) que conota a diferença entre a temperatura mínima e máxima média anual. Os valores das normais (1938-2004) da TMaxMA, TMinMA, TMA e AMA são, respectivamente, 25,1 + 0,5°C, 13,4 + 0,6°C, 18,5 + 0,5°C e 11,6 + 0,7°C. A análise das séries temporais, mediante a aplicação da metodologia de regressão linear dos mínimos quadrados possibilitou a determinação de tendências e análise espectral. Com isso, identificamos tendência ao aumento da TMinMA (0,02°C ano-1) e três ciclos bem definidos de 2,3, 4,7 e 11 anos. A TMaxMA não apresenta nenhuma tendência, entretanto apresentou ciclos de 3,3, 3,5, 4,1 e 4,7 anos. Similarmente, a TMA também apresentou apenas ciclos de 4,1 e 4,7 anos. Já a AMA mostra decréscimo na tendência desde 1938 (–0,02°C a-1), certamente o produto seja a tendência de aumento da TMinMA ao longo do período, já constatada. Entretanto a análise espectral nos apresentou o controle importante do fenômeno El Niño (4,1 e 4,7 anos) e ao do ciclo solar (11 anos) nas 4 séries temporais. Os resultados obtidos pelo estudo denota que os fenômenos naturais ainda predominam como controles da variabilidade da temperatura atmosférica superficial na região do planalto Meridional-riograndense. Por outro lado, a causa do aumento na TMinMA ainda é desconhecida e deverá ser investigada. / This work studies superficial atmospheric temperature variations in the planalto Meriodional-riograndense, located in the Brazilian south most state, through the analysis of time series composed by data from five meteorological stations: Cruz Alta, Iraí, Lagoa Vermelha, Passo Fundo and São Luiz Gonzaga. The data, obtained from the 8° Distrito de Meteorologia/Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia, allowed to study variations in the annual mean (AMT), minimum annual mean (MinAMT), and maximum annual mean (MaxAMT) temperatures for the period 1938-2004. It has also allowed determining variations in the mean annual amplitude (AMA), which corresponds to the difference between the minimum and maximum annual mean temperature. The 1938-2004 normal of MaxAMT, MinAMT, AMT and AMA are, respectively, 25,1 + 0,5°C, 13,4 + 0,6°C, 18,5 + 0,5°C e 11,6 + 0,7°C. Trends were determined using the minimum square linear regression technique and cycles by spectral analysis. MinAMT increased (0,02-1) during the period and shows well defined cycles of 2,3, 4,7 and 11 years. MaxAMT does not have any trend, but does show cycles of 3,3, 3,5, 4,1 and 4,7 years. Similarly, AMT also has only cycles of 4,1 and 4,7 years. On the other hand, the AMA reduction from 1938 onwards (-0,02°C a-1), certainly is a product of the MinAMT increase this period. The spectral analysis of the four time series shows the important control of El Niño (4,1 e 4,7 years) and solar cycle (11 years). Results from this study indicate that natural phenomena still predominate as controls of superficial atmospheric temperature variations in planalto Meridional-riograndese. On the other hand, the reason for a TAML increase is still unknown and it should be investigated.
