Esta pesquisa teve como campo privilegiado de interesse a Educação Infantil - etapa da Educação Básica voltada ao atendimento a crianças na faixa etária de O a 6 anos. Os sujeitos da investigação foram trinta educadoras e cinco educadores infantis que vêm desenvolvendo suas atividades profissionais junto aos grupos etários de O a 2 anos - turmas de Berçário, em cinco Escolas Municipais Infantis de Porto Alegre/RS - EMis. O objetivo da investigação foi uma aproximação ao trabalho destas/es profissionais, tendo como foco "o ser/estar um/a educador(a) de bebês"; apontando algumas implicações pregressas; aspectos da situação atual; e algumas penpectivas futuras. F oram utilizados para tal dois conceitos básicos: o de relações de gênero e o de classe social. Os dados relativos ao trabalho desenvolvido nas instituições foram analisados a partir de referenciais sócio-interacionistas, contemplando Paulo Freire, Piaget, Vygotsky e Wallon, de acordo com os referenciais que orientam a ação pedagógica nas EMis. Para a coleta de dados, optou-se por uma abordagem metodológica qualitativa, utilizando entrevistas abertas, semi-estruturadas, organizadas a partir de quatro eixos básicos: o "ser/estar" educador/a de Berçário; o histórico da profissão enquanto um espaço de trabalho predominantemente ocupado por mulheres; a entrada de educadores nas EMis; e a ação educativo-pedagógica desenvolvida junto às crianças. A partir dos , dados, evidenciou-se o caráter ainda em construção da instituição educativa para bebês, das definições sobre a formação de profissionais e da ação pedagógica voltadas a crianças de zero a dois anos. Destaca-se, a partir desta pesquisa, a importância de que as políticas de formação inicial e em serviço para profissionais da Educação Infantil contemplem estudos sobre a história da Educação Infantil e sobre os conceitos de relações de gênero e de classe social, em suas interfaces com a Educação e, em especial, com a educação de crianças pequenas. / This research had as privileged tield of interest the Infantile Education - levei of education directed to the attendance of children from O to 6 years old. The investigation focus contemplate thirty infantile female educators and tive infantile male educators who come developing its professional activities together the groups from O to 2 years old - groups of Nursery, in tive Infantile City Schools in Porto Alegre/RS/Brazil. The objective of the investigation was an approach to these workers, having as focus the "to be I had been" a babies 's educator; pointing some former implications; aspects of the current situation; and some future perspectives. Two basic concepts had been used for such: the concept of gender relations and the concept of social class. The investigation's data about the pedagogical work with children were analyzed with theories from Pablo Freire, Piaget, Vygotsky and W allon studies, in accordance with the developed action in these schools. For the data's collection it was used a qualitative aproach, using opened interviews that was organized in a four basic topics: "to be " a Nursery educator; this profession while a female tield of work; the input of male educators in these schools; and the pedagogical action developed whith the children. It was observed in according to the data, that the educative institucion for babies is a new kind of school in Brazil that is also constructing the detinitions about its specitic pedagogical action, that will be the base to the definitions about the professional identity of the workers. ihis research put in evidence the importance that some govemmental politics for the professionals o f the Infantil e Education contemplate studies on the history of the Infantil e Education and on the concepts of gender relations and social class relations, in its interfaces with the Education and, in special, with the education of small children.
