Previous issue date: 2011-05-30 / This study makes a analyses of feature-length films 5X Favela Agora por nós mesmos (2010), Cinco Vezes Favela (1962) and Cidade de Deus (2002) in order to verify if there are differences between the way different social groups see one another. Those films represent the favelas (slums) from two perspectives: by the outsiders‟ and the insiders‟ point of view. So, it tries to verify if the non-hegemonic films emphasize the stereotypes created and emphasized from the mainstream films, if they contest them or simply show a different point of view about the cultural and social aspects of the favela and social world around it. From the Cultural Studies perspective, from the process of creating cultural identities, from the representations systems and from the media‟s influence on the social imaginary in the contemporary world, this study uses the representation systems to analyse how the characters are shown, which social position they and the directors occupy in the film; and if necessary the way the themes and the dialogues are shown. / Este estudo faz a análise fílmica dos longa-metragens 5X Favela Agora por nós mesmos (2010), Cinco Vezes Favela (1962) e Cidade de Deus (2002), buscando verificar se existem diferenças entre os diferentes olhares sobre determinados grupos (classe média e moradores da favela) sociais e entre estes e o olhar desses grupos sobre si mesmos. Os filmes em questão representam o mundo da favela sob duas perspectivas: pelo olhar do Outro (visão externa) e pelo olhar sobre si mesmo (visão interna). Assim, este estudo busca verificar se o filme não-hegemônico reforça os estereótipos apresentados nos filmes mainstream, se os questiona ou se simplesmente propõe uma outra visão sobre os aspectos culturais e sociais da realidade da favela e do mundo que a circunda. A partir da perspectiva dos Estudos Culturais, do processo construtivo das identidades culturais, dos sistemas de representação e da formação do imaginário social por influência da mídia no mundo contemporâneo, esta pesquisa usará os sistemas de representação para analisar a apresentação dos personagens e a posição do social que tanto eles como produtores e diretores ocupam e a forma de apresentação dos temas e de alguns diálogos, quando se fizer necessário.
