Previous issue date: 2017-06-01 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Procuraremos demonstrar como a atividade filosófica, ao ser definida negativamente no Banquete em função daquilo que ela não é e nem poderá ser, traz consigo um aspecto marcadamente trágico. Entretanto, se na tragédia ática o conflito trágico instituía-se principalmente a partir da diferença insuperável entre o humano e o divino, em Platão, ao contrário, tal conflito é de tal modo laicizado a ponto de concebermos, por meio de uma paideia filosófica, a possibilidade de vencer-se as vicissitudes do destino ou do que quer que transcenda as capacidades humanas. O fracasso desta tarefa sim, resulta fatalmente em tragédia. / This thesis aims at showing how philosophy, though negatively defined in the Symposium, brings with it a feature that is essentially tragic. Although in the athenian tragedy what we call tragic conflict was mainly set from the perspective of the difference between the human sphere and the divine, in Plato, on the contrary, such a conflict is so secularized that we can actually conceive through a philosophical process of education the possibility to overcome the contingencies of fate or whatever transcends human capacities. Otherwise, we may say that the failure of this task inevitably results in tragedy.
