Previous issue date: 2015-02-11 / CNPQ / O presente trabalho versa sobre a mestiçagem na série Extremo Norte, de Dalcídio Jurandir. Construída como roman-fleuve, esse conjunto é composto por dez livros ambientados na região amazônica. Nove deles têm como personagem central o mestiço Alfredo. Protagonista tipicamente moderno, o principal herói dalcidiano vive um drama existencial resultante do fato de ser filho de um homem branco, com formação acadêmica e erudita, e de uma mulher negra, sem escolarização, mas conhecedora da cultura popular. Com objetivo de analisar o processo de construção da identidade e evolução psicológica de Alfredo, em face de sua condição de mestiço, a presente dissertação leva em consideração todos os romances da série, mas toma como corpus central Três casas e um rio e Ribanceira, respectivamente, quarto e último romances publicados de Dalcídio Jurandir. No intuito de atender à demanda resultante de se estudar a exposição de um problema socioantropológico em narrativa literária, a pesquisa optou por métodos e metodologias interdisciplinares. Por um lado, procurou-se compreender o tema da identidade conflituosa a partir de uma reconstituição histórica das questões vinculadas à mestiçagem, mediante a consulta aos referenciais teóricos desenvolvidos dentro do âmbito dos Estudos Culturais e das Ciências Humanas e Sociais. Por outro, as reflexões acerca da estruturação da narrativa, da construção do personagem e do desenvolvimento do enredo foram elaboradas através do uso de materiais bibliográficos e de métodos de pesquisas próprios da Teoria e Crítica Literária, tais como consulta à biografia e aos arquivos do escritor, observação de seu método criativo, levantamento da recepção da obra e exame de elementos estruturais e simbólicos dos romances. Ao final das análises, constatou-se que, ao longo dos anos, o personagem Alfredo passa por um processo de aprendizagem que o conduz da recusa à aceitação da afrodescendência e identificação com indivíduos socialmente excluídos. Além disso, descobriu-se também que os romances dalcidianos, por fundirem as linguagens oral e escrita e pela mistura de imaginários de diferentes culturas, podem ser caracterizados como narrativa mestiça ou transcultural. / This paper approaches the miscegenation in Dalcidio Jurandir¢¥s series Extremo Norte. Built as a roman-fleuve, this series consist of ten books settled in the Amazon region. Nine of them have as its central character the half-breed Alfredo. Being a typically modern protagonist, the main hero of Dalcidio Jurandir lives an existential drama, resulting from the intersection of cultural values. He is the son of a white man, with academic education and social status, and a black woman, without formal education, but knowledgeable of popular culture. In order to analyze the process of identity construction and psychological evolution of Alfredo, given its mestizo condition, this master's thesis takes into account all the novels of the series, especially Tres casas e um rio and Ribanceira, respectively, the fourth and last published novels of Dalcidio Jurandir. For the purpose of approach the peculiar exposure of a social and anthropological problem in a literary narrative, the research uses the interdisciplinary methodology. Theoretical references of the Culture Studies and Humanities and Social Sciences are employed to reflect about the identity conflicts and to tracing a historical review about issues correlated with miscegenation. However, the reflections about the narrative structure, the construction of the personage and the development of plot, are reviewed through the use of bibliographic materials and proper research methods of Theory and Literary Criticism, such as consulting of biographies and files writer.s, observation of his creative method, survey on the novels' reception and examination of structural and symbolic elements of the novels. As a result, the end of the analysis, it is unveiled that Alfredo goes through a learning process over the years. The character.s rejection is converted to self-acceptance of his African ancestry and identification with socially and excluded individuals. Furthermore, it is also discovered that the studied novels may be characterized as a crossbreeding or a cross-cultural narrative, by the fusing the oral and written languages and the combination of imaginary fields of different cultures.
