Previous issue date: 2007-11-09 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / Building design is an effective way to achieve HVAC energy consumption reduction. However, this potentiality is often neglected by architects due to the lack of
references to support design decisions. This works intends to propose architectural design guidelines for energy efficiency and thermal performance of Campus/UFRN
buildings. These guidelines are based on computer simulations results using the software DesignBuilder. The definition of simulation models has begun with envelope variables,
partially done after a field study of thirteen buildings at UFRN/Campus. This field study indicated some basic envelope patterns that were applied in simulation models.
Occupation variables were identified with temperature and energy consumption monitoring procedures and a verification of illumination and equipment power, both
developed at the Campus/UFRN administration building. Three simulation models were proposed according to different design phases and decisions. The first model represents early design decisions, simulating the combination of different types of geometry with three levels of envelope thermal performance. The second model, still as a part of early design phase, analyses thermal changes between circulation halls lateral and central and office rooms, as well as the heat fluxes and monthly temperatures in each circulation hall. The third model analyses the influence of middle-design and detail design decisions on energy consumption and thermal performance. In this model, different solutions of roofs, shading devices, walls and external colors were simulated. The results of all simulation models suggest a high influence of thermal loads due to the incidence of solar radiation on windows and surfaces, which highlights the importance of window shading

No intuito de aproximar a abordagem acad?mica da pr?tica projetual, este trabalho visa propor recomenda??es projetuais arquitet?nicas para a efici?ncia energ?tica e desempenho t?rmico de edifica??es do Campus/UFRN a partir de resultados de simula??es
computacionais utilizando o programa DesignBuilder. A defini??o dos modelos iniciou-se pelas vari?veis de envolt?ria, realizada parcialmente a partir de um estudo de campo
realizado em treze edifica??es que comp?em o universo da pesquisa. Esse estudo de campo indicou padr?es de envolt?ria b?sicos que foram implementados nos modelos. As
vari?veis de ocupa??o foram obtidas a partir do monitoramento de temperaturas internas e consumo energ?tico e de um levantamento de pot?ncias nominais de ilumina??o e equipamentos, ambos realizados no pr?dio da Reitoria do Campus/UFRN. Foram propostos tr?s modelos de simula??o conforme as diferentes etapas e decis?es
projetuais. O primeiro modelo aborda as primeiras decis?es projetuais, simulando a combina??o de tr?s geometrias t?picas com tr?s n?veis de desempenho de envolt?ria. O
segundo modelo, ainda referente ?s primeiras decis?es, analisa as trocas t?rmicas entre as circula??es laterais e centrais e os agrupamentos de salas, bem como os fluxos de
calor e temperaturas m?dias mensais das circula??es de cada circula??o. O terceiro modelo analisa a influ?ncia de decis?es de projeto e de detalhamento no consumo
energ?tico e desempenho t?rmico. Nesse modelo, s?o simuladas diferentes solu??es de coberta, prote??es solares, sistemas construtivos de paredes e cores externas. Os resultados das simula??es dos tr?s modelos indicam forte influ?ncia dos fluxos t?rmicos causados pela incid?ncia de radia??o solar nas aberturas e superf?cies, o que ressalta a import?ncia do sombreamento das aberturas, orienta??o das salas e da absort?ncia das superf?cies de coberta e paredes
