O objetivo deste estudo é caracterizar as infrações éticas praticadas por cirurgiões-dentistas no exercício profissional da odontologia a partir da análise dos processos éticos instaurados e julgados no Conselho Regional de Odontologia do Estado de Santa Catarina, no período de 1994 a 2006. Como objetivos específicos serão identificadas e quantificadas as 154 infrações que se tornaram processos éticos, segundo: a natureza ou origem das denúncias; a infração ética cometida; o gênero do denunciado; a divisão geográfica de Santa Catarina por mesorregião e data; o ano de graduação; as decisões e penalidades aplicadas em função dos processos éticos instaurados e julgados. Como procedimento metodológico utilizou-se a pesquisa exploratória, descritiva e documental. Os dados apresentados foram provenientes de arquivos do CRO/SC, não constando a identificação dos infratores. Os resultados demonstraram que segundo a origem das infrações a publicidade irregular e o acobertamento do exercício ilegal e irregular da profissão aparecem com percentual elevado. Quanto ao gênero dos infratores, o sexo masculino se sobressai ao sexo feminino. Com relação às mesorregiões, observa-se que a Grande Florianópolis e o Vale do Itajaí apresentam o maior número de infratores. No que se refere ao ano de graduação dos infratores, verifica-se que na década de 1977 a 1986 concentra-se o maior número de infrações. Resultantes dos processos éticos instaurados e julgados, a decisão de absolvição e a penalidade de advertência confidencial em aviso reservado foram as mais aplicadas. Em virtude dos resultados obtidos, sugere-se que seja divulgado e popularizado a ética e os preceitos éticos do Código de Ética Odontológica pelas instituições de classe odontológica e, também, integre com mais ênfase a grade curricular dos cursos de Odontologia das academias.
The Odontological Ethics Code shows as an elaborated instrument to guide the behavior of the surgeon-dentists on the ethical aspects of the profession. The objective of the study is to characterize the ethical infractions practised by surgeon-dentists in the professional exercise of the odontology from the analysis of the establisched and judged ethical processes in the Odontology Regional Council (CRO) of the Santa Catarina State, in the period of 1994 to 2006. As specific objective there will be identified and quantified 154 infractions that if had become ethical processes accordance: the nature or denunciations origin, the committed ethical infraction; the sex of the denounced one, the geographic division of Santa Catarina for region and date, the graduation year, the decisions and applied penalties as function of the establisched and judged ethical processes. As methods procedure it was used explorer, descriptive and documentary research. The presented data had been proceeding from CRO/SC archives of the CRO/SC, not consisting the origin identification infractors. The results had demonstrated that according the infractions the irregular advertising and protection of the illegal and irregular exercise of the profession has high percentage. About the sex of the infractors the masculine stand out to has feminine sex. With regard to the regions it is observed, that Metropolitan region Florianópolis and the Valley of Itajaí present the highest number of infractors. About the graduation year of the infractors it is observed that in 1977 to 1986 decade there was highest number of infractions. Resultants of the ethical processes establisched and judged the decision of absolution and the confidential warning penality in private acknowledgment were most applied. By virtue of the gotten results it is suggested that it is divulged, popularized, the Ethics and the ethical rules of the Odontological Ethics Code, for the institutions odontology classroom and also, integrates with more emphasis the curricular grating of the Odontology degree courses.
