Social, cultural, political and economical aspects among others are frequently the source of environmental problems. The professionals working in education and those who are preparing to work in this field must be informed about the connection of the aspects mentioned earlier and the environmental problems. These professionals must also look for the solution of such problems, and this is the reason why we have this research project. The students of Special Education at UFSM, and also the teachers of Doctor Reinaldo Fernando Cóser Special School, are working in this project as well. Specifically, the objective is to identify the social representation of the students of the Special Education course and the connection of these students with the environmental problems. We still intend to meet the teachers are working with deaf students. We hope to identify also teacher s representation at Deaf School and their connections with environmental problems, and know the path they follow to teach about environmental problems with their students. The interpretation of some data has been done by discussion, interviews and by some predetermined questions. The biggest part of the professionals, teachers and also students, represent aspects like air, trees, water and their preservation. These representations are going to be modified to deaf people education, especially the way that society looks at these persons and the way the society sees their culture and identity. / Fatores sociais, culturais, políticos e econômicos, entre outros, tem provocado inúmeros problemas ambientais. Sua solução pode ser encontrada a partir de posicionamentos e ações eficientes neste sentido. Entendendo que os profissionais da educação tanto em formação inicial, bem como os já atuantes no sistema de ensino, devem estar não apenas informados sobre esta situação, mas também buscando a resolução destes impasses é que nos propomos nesta pesquisa identificar as representações sociais dos acadêmicos do curso de Educação Especial da UFSM, em situação de estágio curricular, bem como dos professores atuantes da Escola Especial Dr. Reinaldo Fernando Cóser, quanto à Educação Ambiental. Mais especificamente, identificar as representações sociais dos acadêmicos do Curso de Educação Especial em estágio curricular com relação à Educação Ambiental. Também detectar as representações que os professores em formação inicial possuem dos alunos surdos, e a respeito da surdez. Ainda esperamos identificar as representações dos professores atuantes da Escola de Surdos quanto à Educação Ambiental, e apontar as formas que trabalham esse componente com seus alunos. A apreciação destas representações, obtidas nas falas, entrevistas e questionários, realizou-se por meio da análise de conteúdo. Em sua maioria, tanto os professores atuantes quanto os estagiários do curso de Educação Especial representam a Educação Ambiental apenas ligada a aspectos da natureza como ar, árvores, água, e sua preservação. De forma que as atividades que os professores realizam com seus alunos tendem a priorizar apenas esses aspectos; Porém, essas representações estão gradativamente sofrendo modificações. Quanto à educação de surdos, suas posturas são valorativas e éticas, engajadas na busca de mudanças das representações que a sociedade, em sua maioria, possui destes sujeitos, de sua cultura e identidade.
