The present research aims at to investigate the historical and
pedagogical process of the School of Arts and Craft Saint Teresinha, which was linked to the rail service web, in the town of Santa Maria/RS and its influence in the girls education in the earlier twentieth century. In the methodology, I used techniques such as: case and gender study, investigative approach of oral history and memory, photos and document analysis based on reports of the Cooperative of Consumption of Rail Service Workers during the period form 1920 to 1931. The use of interviews made the women that had studied in the school and it generated
a new view over the history of feminine education in which every told experience has its value. The photos provided an analysis and a reflection of the historical period. At the end, I tried to carry out a brief history of Santa Maria considering aspects such as: the changes that the railway brought into the town, Manuel Ribas trajectory, the construction of the
feminine school and its practices, the influence of the positivism of the catholic religion and its consequences to the composition of a feminine education concerned in maintaining the social stability in which the woman assumed the role of being mother and wife / A presente pesquisa objetiva investigar o processo histórico e
pedagógico da Escola de Artes e Ofícios Santa Teresinha na cidade de Santa Maria-RS, bem como as suas influências na educação de meninas no início do século XX, cuja escola estava ligada ao empreendimento ferroviário. Como metodologia, utiliza-se do estudo de caso e de gênero, da
abordagem investigativa da história Oral e a memória, valendo-se de instrumentos como registro de fotografias e análise documental através dos relatórios da Cooperativa de Consumo dos Empregados da Viação Férrea do Rio Grande do Sul, no período de 1920-1931, cujos documentos contribuíram sobremaneira para a construção dessa pesquisa. O uso de
entrevistas, fez com que a memória das mulheres que estudaram na Santa Teresinha, viesse compor um novo olhar sobre a história da educação feminina, onde se buscou valorizar cada experiência contada. As fotografias, também possibilitaram a análise e reflexão do período histórico. E por fim, buscou-se desenvolver uma breve história da cidade de
Santa Maria, abordando as mudanças geradas com a vinda da ferrovia, a trajetória de Manuel Ribas, a construção da Escola feminina e suas práticas, a influência da doutrina positivista e da religião católica e seus reflexos na composição de uma educação feminina voltada para a manutenção da estabilidade social, em que a mulher tinha o dever de ser mãe e esposa,
