Previous issue date: 2000-07 / A pesquisa teve como objetivo identificar as características das bibliotecas de universidades e centros universitários brasileiros que disponibilizam informações na Internet, quais são essas informações e como elas são apresentadas e mantidas. Os resultados revelaram que, de maneira geral, não existe predominância significativa de bibliotecas com informação na Internet em nenhuma região específica e que as instituições federais foram as que apresentaram o menor índice de bibliotecas com informações. Prevaleceram as informações que apresentam conteúdo misto, isto é, que oferecem tanto informações institucionais como produtos e serviços, apesar da disponibilização destes últimos ainda acontecer de forma limitada. O formato mais encontrado foi o de homepage completa e as bibliotecas que disponibilizam informações na Internet o fazem através de muitas imagens e deixam a desejar em outros aspectos igualmente importantes. A manutenção das informações é realizada de maneira bastante aleatória e a participação dos bibliotecários se dá na maioria das vezes de maneira indireta, embora estes demonstrem grande interesse pela questão. O maior problema detectado em relação à manutenção das páginas é a falta de pessoal disponível para a tarefa e as maiores dificuldades são atribuídas a problemas institucionais. / The research had as objective to identify the characteristics of universities and Brazilian academic centers libraries where information in the Internet are available, which ones are this information and how hey are presented and updated. The results revealed that, in a general way, there isn't a significant predominance of libraries with information in Internet in no specific region and that the Federal institutions were the ones that presented the minor index of libraries with this kind of information. They prevailed the information with mixed content, that is, they offer institutional information as much as products and services, although the last ones are available in a limited way. The most common format was the one of complete Homepage. The Iibraries where the information in Internet is available do it through many images, and other equally important aspects are forgotten. The information maintenance is accomplished in a very aleatory way and librarians' participation happens, most of the time, in an indirect way, however they are very interested in this subject. The biggest problem detected regarding the pages maintenance is the lack of available personnel for the task and the biggest difficulties are attributed to institutional problems.
