Previous issue date: 2009-12 / No nível cultural de seleção do comportamento humano uma das unidades de análise é a metacontingência, que envolve contingências comportamentais entrelaçadas, um produto agregado e uma consequência cultural externa. Práticas culturais envolvem
entrelaçamentos aprendidos socialmente, recorrentes dentre os membros de um grupo e
cuja existência perpassa a existência de cada membro. As regras são um importante
fator no estudo de práticas culturais, pois o comportamento verbal está sempre
envolvido em processos culturais humanos e pode ter a função de manter o comportamento enquanto a consequência de um entrelaçamento ainda não exerceu controle. As regras envolvidas na cultura podem exercer controle tecnológico ou cerimonial. Regras de controle tecnológico descrevem a consequência a longo prazo que beneficia todos os indivíduos do grupo. Regras de controle cerimonial especificam apenas o comportamento a ser seguido e fazem referência ao status do falante da regra.
Neste estudo, os participantes foram divididos em três grupos cada qual com 8 gerações e convidados a fazer doações das fichas ganhas após uma tarefa distrativa mediante a apresentação de regras de controle tecnológico ou cerimonial. O montante de fichas doadas era trocado por fichas de valor dobrado e devolvidos na geração seguinte. Foram observadas práticas culturais no padrão de doações e entrelaçamentos de contingências envolvendo comportamentos verbais. A presença de regras tecnológicas ou cerimoniais gerou um desempenho mais eficaz e permitiu a coordenação dos comportamentos dos
membros do grupo. Demonstrou-se o controle por regras mesmo quando o seguimento
da regra não era coerente à contingência individual, apenas com a metacontingência. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / At the cultural level of human behavior selection, one unit of analysis is the
metacontingency. It involves interlocked behavior contingencies - IBCs, an aggregated
product and an external cultural consequence. Cultural practices involve socially learned IBCs that are recurrent between the members of the group and whose existence goes beyond any member’s existence. Rules have an important function in the study of cultural practices, because the verbal behavior is always present in human cultural processes and because it may have the function of maintaining the behavior while the consequence for an IBC still isn’t exercising control. Rules involved in culture can exert technological or ceremonial control. Rules of technological control describe the long
term consequence that benefits all the group members. Rules of ceremonial control
specify only the behavior to be followed and make reference to the status of the rule
speaker. Participants were divided into three groups with eight generations each. They were invited to donate the tokens they earned in a distractive activity after the
presentation of technological or ceremonial rules. The tokens donated were exchanged
for double value tokens and were given back to the next generation. Cultural practices
were observed in the donation pattern of the group and IBCs involving verbal behavior.
The presence of technological or ceremonial rules generated a more efficient
performance and permitted the coordination of members' behavior. The control by rules
was demonstrated even when following of the rule was not consistent with individual
contingency, although it was consistent with the metacontingency was.
