O estudo começa com uma introdução que descreve a historicidade do pesquisador, revelando sua trajetória profissional e sua relação com a historicidade do objeto de pesquisa. Fazem parte também da introdução as questões que norteiam a pesquisa e os objetivos específicos e gerais. O primeiro capítulo, fundamentação teórica, está dividido em cinco partes. A primeira, o jogo e a educação, descreve como o jogo foi tratado ao longo da história, o papel que desempenha em cada momento histórico e descreve também como Piaget e Vigotski defendiam a utilização do jogo como um suporte pedagógico. Na segunda parte do primeiro capítulo, são analisadas dissertações de mestrado, defendidas na Faculdade de Educação da Universidade de Brasília, nas quais o lúdico é o foco de estudo; todas essas dissertações apresentam fundamentação teórica que referenda a presença do lúdico nas escolas. Na terceira parte do primeiro capítulo, analisam-se algumas dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado que investigaram o jogo de xadrez, em diferentes aspectos, além da prática de xadrez em outros países e os benefícios advindos dessa prática, investiga-se também a prática do xadrez no Brasil, verificando seus benefícios. A quarta parte do primeiro capítulo constitui um estudo sobre o ensino de matemática, realizando um panorama sobre o ensino de matemática seguido por uma análise histórica desse até se chegar ao contexto atual, nessa parte também analisa-se a relação entre o jogo e a aprendizagem matemática, para buscar compreender como os alunos aprendem matemática em ambientes com jogos, qual a relação entre a solução de problemas de matemática com situações de jogos. A quinta parte do primeiro capítulo consiste em um estudo sobre os fatores internos e externos que favorecem a inovação em sala de aula. O segundo capítulo descreve o método da pesquisa – qualitativa –, uma pesquisa participante na qual o professor-pesquisador investigou a utilização do xadrez em sua prática docente, descreve também como ocorreu o trabalho de campo e quais os caminhos e estratégias que o pesquisador adotou durante sua investigação. O terceiro capítulo consiste da análise dos dados: redações, questionário e o grupo focal são comentados e analisados e fornecem material para as discussões finais. A conclusão apresenta os benefícios do xadrez para o ensino-aprendizagem de matemática e também uma analise dos resultados desta investigação realizada com alguns trabalhos que foram sintetizados pelo pesquisador. _______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The purpose of this research is to investigate the contributions that chess may bring to the learning of mathematics. The study starts with a descriptive introduction of the researcher personal history, this introduction unveils the professional trajectory of the researcher as well as his relationship with the research object. It is also in the introduction that the general and specific aims of the research, and its leading questions, are presented. The first chapter brings the theoretical foundation, it is divided into five major parts. The first one concerns the game and education, it describes how the game has been treated throughout history, its role in each historical period and how Piaget and Vigotsky stood for it as pedagogical support. In the second part of the first chapter, some Master’s degree dissertations will be analyzed. Presented at the Department of Education of the University of Brasilia, these dissertations have the ludic as the main object of study. In the third part of the first chapter, some other Master’s degree dissertations and Doctorate thesis which research on the use of chess are analyzed. These papers research on the different aspects of the use of chess, not only in Brazil, but also in other countries. They also account for the benefits of its use inside the classroom. The forth part of the first chapter presents a study about the teaching of mathematics. It starts as a panoramic view, going through a historical analysis up to the present. The relationship between the game and the mathematic learning will also be analyzed in this part. The objective of this analysis is to understand how the students’ learning of mathematics in such an environment works and what is the relationship between mathematical problem solving with game situations. The fifth part of the first chapter is a study about the internal and external factors that favor the innovation in the classroom. The second chapter describes the research methods, which were qualitative; a method of inquiry in which the teacher-researcher investigated the use of chess in his own pedagogical practice, describing how the field work took place and which pathways and strategies were adopted during the investigation. The third chapter brings the data analysis: compositions, questionnaires and a focus group are commented and analyzed, and such analysis supplies the material for the final discussion. The conclusion presents the researcher’s final considerations.
