2011_AnaDanielaRezendePereiraNeves.pdf: 894034 bytes, checksum: c890ee4e3373540b02a052c2289bbfa8 (MD5) / Esta dissertação objetiva analisar a representação do outro em Grande sertão: veredas, de João Guimarães Rosa, tendo em consideração, principalmente, a representação dos personagens catrumanos do Alto Urucúia e do povoado do Pubo. Todavia, resta destacar que a representação dos catrumanos é parte significativa da representação intrínseca à totalidade da obra, esta, por sua vez, profundamente marcada pela dialética forma literária e processo social. Inicialmente, abordaremos a matriz crítica do romance, a saber, os estudos de Antonio Candido e de M. Cavalcanti Proença, procurando confrontar as duas leituras, no sentido de estabelecer diálogos e convergências fundamentais para compreensão tanto da obra rosiana quanto da fortuna crítica subsequente. Em seguida, o conceito de representação utilizado neste trabalho será definido retomando alguns dos principais teóricos da mimesis. Também a relação entre teoria e crítica literária e seus desdobramentos serão abordados neste momento. A tradição literária brasileira e o enfrentamento, por parte dos escritores nacionais, da dicotomia narrador x personagem, problema representacional constitutivo da nossa literatura, serão pontos centrais de análise, a serem aprofundados na última parte do trabalho. Por fim, retomaremos os principais trabalhos de alguns críticos que estudaram mais detidamente os personagens catrumanos, para que tentemos avançar a discussão sobre o romance rosiano. Nesse sentido, será estudada a representação dos catrumanos como ameaça, em Grande sertão: veredas, tendo em vista os traços de primitividade e estranheza conotativos ao próprio substantivo, a forma narrativa, bem como os limites constitutivos da formação do país e da literatura. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This dissertation aims to analyze the representation of the other in The Devil to Pay in the Backlands (Grande sertão: veredas, original title), written by João Guimarães Rosa, mainly regarding the representation of the catrumanos characters from Alto Urucúia and Pubo village. However, it is important to highlight that the catrumanos‟ representation is a significant part that is intrinsic to the totality of this literary work, and that, in turn, is deeply marked by the dialectic of literary form and social process. At first, we will approach the novel‟s major criticism, namely, the studies of Antonio Candido and M. Cavalcanti Proença, seeking to confront these two readings in order to establish dialogues and convergences which are fundamental to understand Rosa‟s work and the subsequent critical heritage. On a second moment, the concept of representation used in this work will be defined recalling some main scholars of mimesis. Also the relation between theory and literary criticism along with its ramifications will be approached at this part. The Brazilian literary tradition and the confrontation of the dichotomy narrator versus character faced by national writers, which is a representational problem that constitutes Brazilian literature, will be one of the main points of this analyses and will be further discussed in the last part of this work. Finally, we will recall the main works of some critics who have studied more carefully the catrumanos characters, trying to move forward in the discussion about Rosa‟s novel. In this sense, the representation of catrumanos will be studied as a threat in The Devil to Pay in the Backlands, considering their primitiveness and strangeness features which are connotative to the noun itself, besides the narrative form and the limits that lead to the formation of the country and the formation of literature as well.
