Previous issue date: 2007 / Resumo: O objeto central de análise deste trabalho é o edifício do Grupo Escolar "Barão de Monte Santo", atualmente Escola Estadual "Barão de Monte Santo", projetado e construído no início do século XX, na cidade de Mococa, Estado de São Paulo e as possíveis relações entre o período republicano e educação. A estrutura arquitetônica desse prédio é a expressão do projeto em curso de consolidação da ordem burguesa no Brasil. Os edifícios escolares são eleitos pelos intelectuais da Primeira República (1889-1930) como divulgadores dos valores republicanos. O Grupo Escolar Barão de Monte Santo é estudado em suas relações com o contexto republicano e de expansão das atividades urbanas no interior paulista, dotado de um ideário modernizador representando as expectativas políticas republicanas e sociais no sentido de tornar a cidade do interior paulista ícone de prosperidade e de desenvolvimento / Abstract:The central issue of analysis of this work is the building of the "Grupo Escolar Barão de Monte Santo", now the State School " Barão de Monte Santo ", projected and built in the beginning of the twentieth century, in the city of Mococa, State of São Paulo and the possible relations between the republican period and education. The architectonic structure of that building is the expression of the project in course of consolidation of the bourgeois order in Brazil. The school buildings are chosen by the intellectuals of the First Republic (1889-1930) as divulgers of the republican values. The ¿Grupo Escolar Barão de Monte Santo¿ is studied in its relations with the republican context and the expansion of the urban activities in the interior of São Paulo, endowed with a modernistic idea representing the social and political republican expectations in the sense of making the interior city of São Paulo an icon of prosperity and development / Mestrado / Educação, Sociedade, Politica e Cultura / Mestre em Educação
